What an absolute joke. Washington first? I'm not even going to post about this on the main boards, I'm sure the Caps fans are absolutely insufferable right now. EDIT: Yes I am. Can't resist.

I'd probably put us ahead of Philadelphia's D-Corp ... but that's about it ... but I wouldn't take anyone else's top pairing over Suter - Weber

Overall I'd take Pittsburgh and Philly ahead of us but ninth is kinda weak.

Im confused, how do they rank the defensive corps because according the the TSN rating we would be 7th.

The column referenced was a statistical based fantasy hockey column that had no objectivity to it...which lead to the unrealistic rankings...

Preds Foundation Recognized With Corporate Philanthropy Award

Quote:
The Nashville Predators have been named one of Nashville Business Journal's 2010 Corporate Philanthropy Awards Winners. The judges were blown away by all that the organization does for the community, and will recognize the Nashville Predators for their outstanding philanthropic efforts at a special section and awards luncheon (on Thursday, May 13) celebrating 12 winning for-profit companies who go above and beyond in their philanthropic efforts, making a tremendous positive impact on local charities and non-profits. At the event, one company will be selected to be honored at the national Jefferson Awards in Washington, D.C.

Couldn't find any article on the Tennessean's site, but did find some articles about the Titans helping the community.

Wade Belak and JP Dumont played in the City of Hope Softball Game Monday night.

Belak hit a home run, Dumont scored the GW run in extra innings. (photos from the Preds)

And the soon to be Mr. Carrie Underwood played in the game.

And Bridgestone name officially put on the arena.

Anyone see on Twitter that Hamhuis took a nice little shot at us, last night? Basically said there were more people at the Canucks summer summit than there would be at a November Preds home game.

While likely true, he didn't really need to tell it like it is, so sharply.

Somebody probably asked him why Vancouver could overpay for defensemen while Nashville had to just pay them fairly. So he gave the fan disparity as the reason for his bloated pay.

From the Hornqvist signing article in the tennessean, Re: Weber

"One of the more interesting contract negotiations to follow will be that of Weber, even though the all-star defenseman is signed through the 2011-12 season.

"We have two years to get him signed to a more longer term contract," Poile said. "I already talked to his agents about entering into a longer term deal. I don't want to put the cart ahead of the horse, but I think Shea wants to be here and I know we want him to be here. Hopefully we can come to an agreement sometime during this year.""

Two years? Weber's an RFA next summer...

http://www.tennessean.com/article/20...na+lease+terms

Our good friends Michael Cass and Nate Rau give us this "Tennessean Watchdog" report.

Quote:
The Nashville Predators are violating the terms of their Bridgestone Arena lease in one case and seem to be skirting them in another.

The Predators have failed to file statements of the team's net worth — which are required to guarantee the city would be able to recoup its investment if the team went belly-up — for the past two fiscal years. Team officials said the annual July 1 deadline, which the owners agreed to during lease negotiations, is impractical and unreasonable.

At the same time, the NHL franchise's sister company, Powers Management, which runs the arena for Metro, has routinely charged a facility fee of $2.50 as part of the price of a concert ticket, despite a stated cap in the lease of $2 for ticket surcharges on "non-team events." Powers executives said the additional 50 cents from each concertgoer, which they described as a standard industry practice, has netted the company $150,000 to $200,000 a year since at least 2002 to help pay for building maintenance.

A semi-long article, but if you read all the way to very last 2 paragraphs.....

Quote:
An official with Dean's administration said the practice seems to comply with the lease.

"My understanding is that what they're doing is charging a facility fee of $2.50, which includes the ticket surcharge of up to $2," said Bob Lackey, a Metro Finance Department official who tracks the arena's revenues and expenses. "They've got some leeway to set internal fees to generate revenue for that facility."

They picked today, today when we have our first preseason game, to get this in the paper as the front page headline. And they wonder why Preds fans hate them and feel like they hate the Preds.

Yeah, excellent timing. Headline was extra big today as well. Just do what I do, don't buy the paper and don't visit the site. Don't give them revenue.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill... And not only that, but then to find out that the huge article you wrote was incorrect to begin with?

But you KNOW their timing was perfect. This article has been written for weeks now and they print it on opening night of the season for the Preds. What a horrible paper...

Just looked at the "article"....looks like the Titanasean decided it needed some hits and comments....what better way than screaming from the rooftops that a pro sports franchise is ripping off the tax payers. Some people are so effing stupid the believe anything they read.
