No way does an agent spend all those ardous hours with Wadell if the end game is to be traded....

If that is the case his Agent simply tells Waddell in December, "Ilya is testing the open Market this summer"...Boom, no fuss, no muss -- trade happens.

The thing here is you guys logic just doesn't jive....

"He didn't want to be in Atlanta, therfore he didn't want to be the highest paid player"

The "highest paid player" were from at least 3 months of negotiations that I can tell from newspaper article dates. That wasn't just a ploy, that is a little insight into what that agent was thinking for his player.

None of us know for sure what Grossman and Kovalchuk are thinking. And it's not our job to know. If Lou and Kovy both decide that he is a good fit with the Devils, and the price is right, then he will stay. If Kovy walks, then I will have full confidence that Lou did whatever he thought was best for the team. And I trust Lou to make that call.

If I were the agent of what will probably be the highest paid player in the NHL - I'd sure be willing to spend a few meaningless hours chatting with a GM to posture... my % cut would be INSANE as it drives up his price on the open market.

Sure, some "pumping of the stock" is his job...

But you can see from the way negotiations/discussion were framed and what was leaked, that this agent believes he has a player should be the highest paid player in the league.

All I'm saying is that is some insight into what that agent is thinking for his client.

I hope Kovy signs a 2 year deal with us. Gives him two more years to try to win a Cup and if not, just walk and sign with another team while he'll still be in his prime.

I've got a question :

How long will Marty play? 3-4 more years?

Everyone here is talking about JUST 3 years for Kovy here and then he's gone 'cause we will be "rebuilding" here. Ummm..excuse me but because our HOF Goaltender won't be around anymore after that, that means that with the other Talent that we have on the team, we won't be making the Playoffs anymore? That's the vibe I'm getting here.

Check out the other teams that DON'T have a Marty Brodeur....They make the Playoffs more often than not, If i'm not mistaken. Hell....THE FLYGIRLS WITHOUT A GOALIE ARE IN THE 6TH SPOT RIGHT NOW IN VERY GOOD SHAPE TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!

Is it so out of the realm of possibility for Kovy to stay for about 6 years here? Why should the Devils allow ANOTHER TEAM to reap the rewards of having Kovy still in his PRIME Years on THEIR team and not ours?

I don't know if Jeff Frazee is the answer though.

That was more of luck than anything. Our offense and defense were firing on all cylinders. We made Clemmensen look like a top 10 goalie in the league.

And when Marty came back we came back down to Earth

He isn't. Worst case scenario, he's the stopgap until we can draft a successor for Marty.

By the time Brodeur retires, he'll get tired of playing in the minors and head back to the Finnish league.

I don't think Kovy will resign but beyond that point people must understand that he's just a rental right now, and that the season is still going on

I just hate these rumor talks right now. Kovalchuk hasn't said anything and has had the full intention of just finishing off the season and worrying about everything else during the offseason, so people need to stop freaking out.

Stop being such a party-POOP-er, Mike. I'm going to keep being optimistic 'till the Cows(or Kovy) come home.

How about the OTHER teams that make the playoffs yearly who never had a Marty-Brodeur? Is that "luck", too?

Alright well I didn't mean luck in that sense. To make it clearer, during the Clemmensen regime, we caught absolute fire. You could have put me in goal and we could have still won games.

All Clemmensen had to do was stop the first shot. Our defensemen were rebound clearing machines. And our offense was the best we've seen since 01.
