Statistically, Card has had an outstanding season compared to last year. It'll be interesting to see if the Sabres are interested in binging him in down the road and offering a contract.

Right now, I don't think there's any question that they will. I have a feeling that the entire draft class from last season will get a solid look. Regier and BTG have said that they're only looking to sign guys with a realistic shot at the big club, but as of now, there isn't a ton that differentiates between all the picks - especially the defensemen. As far as forwards go, you have to think that Mancari and Hunter would be on the outside looking in. It's way too early yet, though.

So far, the play of our young defensive prospects in the CHL seems to bode well for our defensive depth in the future. Not that they project to be top pairing guys or anything, but it seems they all have a legit chance at becoming serviceable NHL defensemen, which is what we seriously lacked in the pipeline before the draft. I'd feel a lot better if we had some high-end defensive prospects, but last year's draft from the second round on seems to have been a step in the right direction.

Mike Card to Sabres

He is a very good player, but do you think he'll get a contract?
