i was just looking at SH stats for a thread about mike green, and looked at some for DRW.

PPGA/60 minutes
lidstrom: 3.74
stuart: 7.82

lidstrom's number is among the best in the NHL. stuart's is among the worst.

that has to be significant, since they play with the same goalie every game and mostly with the same F's and mostly against the same players.

FF last season suggested that the problems with the 2nd pair and road PK may be the same problem.

tmf2204 and i looked into it and found that stuart and kronwall were on the ice for a very high % of road PPGA.

should stuart's SHTOI not be reduced?

edited SHGA to PPGA

If you have noticed, Stuart has seen a reduction in ice time recently. In our last 5 games decided in regulation, he has seen under 21 minutes of ice time in every game. In the previous 50 games decided in regulation this season, he only saw less than 21 minutes of ice time in 8 of those games. In these 5 recent games with a reduced role/responsibility, he is a +4. He has quietly been playing better lately and our PK is succeeding at an 89% clip since the Olympic Break. I think he's been a big part of that, as well.

The problem this season for him was that he had to take on more than he could chew. With everyone back healthy, he can slot into a complimentary role on his defensive pairing with Kronwall and have more energy to exert SH. He'll be fine in his role as a PK specialist and #4 D man, and I doubt they are going to disrupt something that has been working pretty well.
