Surely Holmgren realizes that you can only play one goalie at the time.

Yep, just found out too.

Ben Scrivens, G, 23
Senior, Cornell University

Scrivens is the latest in a string of outstanding goaltenders coming out of Cornell and like some of his predecessors, has etched his name into the annuls of the Big Red record books as well.

The Spruce Grove, AB native has appeared in 29 games thus far this season, posting a record of 17-8-4 that includes four shutouts. His 1.99 goals against average and .931 save percentage both rank third in the nation. Scrivens was recently named to the All-ECAC First Team and was one of just two players receiving a unanimous selection to the All-Ivy League, after leading both the ECAC and Ivy League with a .933 save percentage and a .705 winning percentage. On Jan. 29, Scrivens broke the Cornell career saves record and heads into the ECAC post-season with 2,743 saves.

Scrivens is a big goaltender (6’2/192) with great agility and good lateral movement. His play down low and on his angles is also quite good. One notable improvement that Scrivens has made over the course of his career has been in his puck-handling. That, along with his added confidence has made him more consistent, particularly in stepping up in big games.
This adds to both Testwuide and Gustafsson who made HF's top 10 NCAA free-agents list as well. I'd love to see him here.

If we could get him then I would be ecstatic.

Between Backlund (may or may not get re-signed, I know), Eriksson, Riopel, Scrivens, Phillips, Leighton, and to a lesser extent Morrisson, somebody has to work out for us. =)

Don't know anything about that Stewart guy that we signed either so if he's a good prospect then throw him in there too.

Here's how I would rank who we're scouting/various young goaltenders we could trade for/who we have (based on the potential of players with actual potential):

1. Price (MTL)
2. Schneider (VAN)
--------------
3. Halak (MTL)
4. Bobrovsky (FA)
5. Harding (MIN)
--------------
6. Enroth (BUF)
7. Neuvirth (WSH)
8. Eriksson (PHI)
9. Scrivens (FA)
10. Rynnas (FA)
--------------
11. Hutton (FA)
12. Morrison (PHI)
13. Riopel (PHI)
--------------
14. De Serres (PHI)
15. Phillips (PHI)

6-10 might be a wash.

Holmgren's trying to make up for pissing away draft picks like singles at a strip club.

Holmgren needs to sign him asap. Give him the rookie max contract and go from there. If they're going to vamp up the goaltending position, then go ahead and put everyone in a dog fight for the goaltending positions that are available.

I want to sign Bobrovksy and Scrivens. Let them play in the AHL. Send Riopel to the ECHL (sorry Riopel). Dump Boucher ANYWHERE. Let de Serres play as an overager. Say bye to Backlund (sorry Backlund), Teslak, and Duchesne. Most importantly: let Eriksson play over in the SEL.

Our NHL goalies have a number of approaches we can take.

At least if they have to activate him for a game, he'll get to keep his jersey.

Personally, I would like to find a way to keep Backlund, but that's a smart way to go about it.

How do you sign more then one player like Bobrovsky and Scrivens. Why would one of them want to back-up the other or even split time?

Honestly, both would probably see it as a fast track to the NHL. Yeah, they'd have to battle between themselves, but with the hole in the NHL nets, it's going to be a faster path than signing with, say New Jersey or the Rangers or maybe even Chicago.

Well, if we have to sign one, I say we go after Bobrovksy. I've heard rumors that if the Flyers really want him, he's there for the taking at the end of the KHL playoffs.

There's a lot of competition for Rynnas, and we're only competing with Toronto for Scrivens apparently.

I'm not sure how credible all of that is because there's a lot of scouting going on right now, but I'd like to get both Bobrovsky and Scrivens. Bob is a better goaltender and has all kinds of potential according to scouts. Scrivens has a chance to better gel with our team. Let them split time in the AHL, and we will see who comes out on top.

It's also possible we won't have that luxury.

The idea is though that they want to make the NHL squad. They see the **** show we have in net now, they get all excited and fight it out to try to make it.

Posted this in the prospects thread but video on Scrivens

He'll fit right in haha

Schneider above Halak? You know that Halak has actually proven himself, right?

That is like GKJ choosing B over C... it is just not probable!

PO-TEN-TIAL.

I fully expect Halak to come down to reality eventually. He's good, but he's not as good as his stats this year indicate.

Sure sign him. Continue the effort to cover for the fact we have almost no picks in the draft.

Signing three of the top 10 NCAA free-agents from one of the best NCAA free-agent classes in years is a good start to alleviating some of the pressure put on us from Holmgren's maneuvering.

I hope we get this guy. Testwuide, Gustafsson, Holmstrom, Pither, and Harper...add possibly one or two of Scrivens, Rynnas, and Bobrovsky...maybe Bodrov's brother...and we're doing way better on the free-agent market than we could've done in the draft this year.

Plus we still have the draft to look forward to even though you should probably be prepared to hear some names you don't know unless we make a decent splash moving some bigger contracts.

I'm pretty pleased with Holmgren's effort here. It's not as simple as him signing everyone and hoping they stick. He's getting some decent talent.

you should watch Halak play more. He is the next Vokoun, he is a great goalie, and is very determined to improve his game.

With Caron are we at 50 contracts? Could we sign this guy and play him now?
