Boston has 4 tough games remaining starting with Caps on Monday. Honestly, I can see them losing all 4.
I think Montreal is in after tonights win. They have 3 games left and 2 of them are relatively easy (Isles and Leafs). The other game is against Canes.
Atlanta has 3 tough games left - Caps, Devils and Pens.
We have Philly pretty much covered because we play them twice (last 2 games of the season).
I see Montreal finishing 6th and the Rangers and Philly as #7 and #8 (or vice versa) which means Boston misses out.
I agree. MTL kinda clinched 6th place tonight. If they win 2 of their last 3, then only BOS can catch them if they would win all 4 of their games left. Which as you pointed out is highly unlikely, being they play the Caps twice at Wash.
So with 6th place not likely for the Rangers anymore, we need to secure the 7th spot, cause we don't wanna face the Caps in the first round.
If BOS loses 2 of 4 in regulation, PHI loses to DET tomorrow,... The Rangers need only to go 3-1 to secure the 7th spot. This is a very possible senario.

Big game tomorrow in Philly. Go Wings!
Indeed, very possible. Assuming the Devils are still the 2 seed, anything could happen. We have a much better chance against them than the Capitals.
ill say i would not mind washington for one reason pay back, we were booted from the playoffs in the first round by them and now i think it is time we repay the favor just as we did to nj the 2nd season after teh lockout afte they booted us the season before! I'm crazy, it's okay. But i wouldn't mind nj either.
Washington is going to have nothing to play for, the exact opposite of the Bruins.
While that's true ON PAPER, reasons Washington isn't going to coast:
1. They don't want to give any kind of momentum to a team they may have to face in the first round. If Rask pitches a shutout against them, the Caps could be shaking their heads, a lot like Games #1 and 2 last year vs. Hank.
2. It never benefits a young team to stop playing hard.
On the same topic...I could see Carolina go into coast mode.

I woulda said the same thing, but the last 2 times we played them this season, seems like they were awestruck by them. Intimidated and overwhelmed by their starpower. They were the only team this year to put fear in our eyes. It was the low point of the season to see them act so complacent, and helpless to the situation.
Hopefully, the Rangers will find a new found confidence in winning a playoff berth. Coming into the post season firing on all cylinders could be just what is needed to upset them.
The Rangers looked horrible for the first 2 periods. I didn't think that they would score a goal for the rest of the game. After they scored under 1 min. into the 3rd I had a feeling something good was going to happen.
