Emery called the injury "a genetic kind of thing. You have it, and it can come up when you're older or younger, depending on how much you use it. You can't control something that's genetic."
"Basically, it is just a dead bone at the top, and slowly it starts to deteriorate," Emery said. "Three weeks ago they noticed that there was some deterioration and they thought that this is what it was. Then, you have to wait three weeks to see how fast it's progressing. Yesterday, they did another MRI, and it has progressed to the point that [with] any athletic activity, they think that it's going to collapse."
Asked if he thought his career was in jeopardy, Emery said: "I don't know. It's not good. It's not something that I expected to happen. I'm 27 years old, and didn't even think I had played my best hockey so far. But things pop up, and you have to work through them. The next step is to get it fixed and then after that I have to work to get back."
I really feel for the guy. I wish him the best of luck. It sounds like it might be a problem year in and year out, sort of like Foppa, even if he does come back. You never want to see people go out like this.

no but seriously, this is terrible for him. I'd really support us signing him to at least play in the AHL, aside from it being a noble thing to do, it means a 0 risk possible good goalie down the road, and one that would take a pay cut for us.

Wow a constantly deteriorating bone in your hip? That sounds incredibly painful (and unfortunately for Emery, incredibly career threatening).
Center Jeff Carter will have an MRI on his left foot Wednesday to determine when he can start skating. Best-case scenario: He is able to play Friday in New York against the Rangers. Laviolette said that when Carter returns, there is a chance he will move to right wing on Danny Briere's line

The first injury was most likely caused by the second one. It just happened to manifest itself that way. Emery said that something didn't feel right and that that probably lead to the abdominal issues.
I really don't see Emery coming back in the NHL. Apparently he had "better then expected" surgery, but it will still take another 6 months to know if he can play again. If all goes well, he would still need to get back in game shape. So I could see some AHL signing him the a tryout contract for a few games ala Graham. After that who know, but if all goes well, maybe Europe again. I don't think an NHL team would do anything more then maybe bring him in competing for a back-up spot in camp, even if the hip is 100% and he plays well in his time back.
Even then, I don't think a team will bring him on board. The thing is, with avascular necrosis, it just doesn't go away after surgery. Because it's also a genetic condition, the fact is, it could attack his other hip or some other joint in his body. Honestly, I think Emery's career is over. However, you can bet he has some sort of insurance policy in place and that he'll be well looked after as a result. I'm not sure if the NHL players carry Lloyd's of London insurance policies, but I'm pretty sure that they have something similar in place.

I would like those lines, except I'd rather Asham dress than Powe, but in this scenario (with Carter on the wing) Powe has to dress or we don't have a 3rd line center.
I don't know man. I am about as big a positivist as anyone on these boards about the Flyers chances, or at least I have been. Just because we beat the Devils five out of six times in the regular season doesn't mean we can beat them four out of seven in the playoffs. And Buffalo is a pretty damn good team. They don't have that superstar power on offense, but they have plenty of weapons that can score, not to mention that guy in the net. At this point, though, I am focusing more on making the playoffs rather than who they are playing first round.
I missed the back to back games against the devils as I was out of the country but the rest of the the games we looked very good against them. Even we were playing our worst we best them 5-1. I think we have Broduers number. The Devils with a super star like kovy is dangerous but you can tel they dont know how to use him yet. Maybe next year. And Im sorry but that D is just donw right ugly. You just can't lose Nieds, Rafalski, even Oduya and not replace them with anything. They dont scare me.
The Sabres are a good team no doubt. But Miller has come back down to earth, kinda, and when your best Dman is 18, you got to like playing against him in his first playoffs.
