TORONTO -- The one thing the Flyers could use the most right now, they got this afternoon.
Swedish netminder John Backlund took shots at Air Canada Centre after practice and for the first time reported no problems with his groin area.
“We got some very good news today on Backlund,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “He took a lot of shots where he had to go down on the ice and open up. He was fine. No pain. We’re really encouraged by that.”
So what does that mean? Holmgren said if the Flyers can clinch a playoff spot in the final couple games, he now expects Backlund would be ready to play in the first round of the playoffs.
The plan is give him additional rest and be ready for postseason.
this guy hasnt logged enough minutes to be dropped right into the playoff series.
The guy's been a starter in the Swedish Elite League for some time. He's also played in the World Championships. I think there's very little to be worried about if Backlund plays. It's not as if this a 20 year old being dropped on the scene.
