Backlund ("good news")

http://www.csnphilly.com/04/06/10/Fl...226&feedID=695

Quote:
TORONTO -- The one thing the Flyers could use the most right now, they got this afternoon.

Swedish netminder John Backlund took shots at Air Canada Centre after practice and for the first time reported no problems with his groin area.

“We got some very good news today on Backlund,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “He took a lot of shots where he had to go down on the ice and open up. He was fine. No pain. We’re really encouraged by that.”

So what does that mean? Holmgren said if the Flyers can clinch a playoff spot in the final couple games, he now expects Backlund would be ready to play in the first round of the playoffs.

The plan is give him additional rest and be ready for postseason.

Boucher has been a lot better the last few games, but that sense of dread still looms. This is good news.

What I got out of this is that if ready to go, Backlund will start in the playoffs. Yes? No?

An option if needed, but unless Boucher totally flops in the final two games, Boucher starts in a possible Game 1.

That's nice. We potentially have a back up goalie for the playoffs.

This is a very real possibility if Boucher goes down.

Can't fit both in the salary cap.

The guy's been a starter in the Swedish Elite League for some time. He's also played in the World Championships. I think there's very little to be worried about if Backlund plays. It's not as if this a 20 year old being dropped on the scene.

Good news.

Boosh has played well for a few games now and until he completely blows up at the end of the season or in the playoffs at some point you play Boucher. If he does blow up then try out Backlund.

If Backlund does get to see some more starts then at least we'll have a better idea about whether or not he should be re-signed.

Good news... would be better if the name on the title of this thread was Leighton.. but good news nonetheless.

"The news is that you've been spared the electric chair. However, the judge has ordered that you be kicked in the groin by every member of the Manchester United squad. With their cleats."

Options only sound good or bad against the other options. But I hear you.
