All-Star Game/Skills competition

The All-Star game will be on ESPN2 this monday at 6pm. That is channel 29 for all you Comcast lovers. The skills competition will be broadcast the following day (Tues. 15th) at 8pm on Comcast SportsNet SouthEast (Channel 27 on Comcast). It is also shown at 12:30 pm the next day (Wed. 16th) on Channel 27.

I thumbed ahead and my digital cable guide shows both the All-Star game on ESPN2 and the skills challenge on Tuesday on Channel 27, so it appears we will have access to it, which is great.

After 2 events, Planet USA is tied with Canada 2-2. In the team puck control relay, Planet USA won. In the head-to-head Jason Spezza of team Canada beat Zach Parise. One point was earned by Planet USA for the team relay win and one point was earned by Canada for Spezza's individual win (I guess his skating isn't that bad after all )

And in the second event, Tomas Plekanec won the individual fastest skater award by skating a sub 14.2. But thanks to a 15.0 run by Kronwall, Planet USA lost the fastest average skater. Planet USA earned one point for having the fastest skater, and Team Canada earned one point for having the best overall team average.

Next up, the Rapid Fire competition where Gamache, amongst others, for Team Canada faces Antero Nittymaki in heat #2. Hamhuis, amongst others, will face Ryan Miller in heat #3.

Man, Lehtonen looked awful. He gave up 8 goals on 10 attempts in the rapid fire competition, 2 goals on 3 attempts in the Pass and Score, and 2 goals on 6 attempts in the Breakaway. That's an astounding 12 goals given up on 19 attempts!

Even Joey MacDonald, who statistically has no reason to be on that team other than last years performance, did much better (9 goals on 19 attempts).

I would have thought that Lehtonen would be one of the pillars of Planet USA during the skills competition instead of one of its weakest links.

Meanwhile, American Ryan Miller dominated the competition saving all but 4 of the 19 attempts. He was named the top goaltender for the second straight year.
