The Rangers have 82 pts
The Flyers have 86 pts

If they beat Toronto and get a whole 2 pts, they could afford to go to OT once against the Flyers. After 2/3 games the pts would be 87-84(if the flyers get a pt.)

The last game the Rangers can not afford to go to OT or else it's over.

You also have to factor in Montreal and Boston

The playoffs are in our hands. Here are some scenarios that will get us in the playoffs.
  • Boston loses the rest of their 3 games, at the very least we need 3 points (1 win, 1 OTL loss, 1 loss), we get the tiebreaker by having the most wins. Boston is then eliminated.
  • At the very least, we get an OT Loss against Toronto (1 point) and beat the Flyers in both games (4 points). Flyers are most likely eliminated.
  • Win all of the last three games. Flyers are most likely eliminated.

We could still land the 6th place spot (Buffalo scares me though), I'd love to have 7th place to face off against the Devils (As long as it ain't the Penguins), but lets at least settle for 8th.

Lets also hope that Boston loses their last three games.

Avery

For me, the key is getting Avery back...any updates on him? How about Boyle?

I think that Prust has done a great imitation of Avery thus far and I am starting to love Prust! The problem is that with Avery and Boyle out, we have slow guys like Shelley and Voros filling in...that lack of speed really showed against a much faster Buffalo team.

When we have to go against Philly, we will need Avery's toughness and speed as well as Boyle (for his size).

Do you all really want to see this team in the playoffs for half a week? We got shellacked by Buffalo last night, just a preview of things to come really.

Well... Yes I do want to see them make the playoffs. I'd be pretty happy as a fan IF they could actually pull this off and actually show me they do care.

The Rangers are a -210 favorite tonight. That pretty much guarantees a win.

He rarely uses his size to his advantage. It's a shame really, but I don't think the guy himself realizes that he's a giant.

We've gone 5-1-1 since that Boston debacle.

How we've made up no ground with that record is pretty amazing. Thanks a lot the rest of the NHL.

The fact that the Rangers even have the opportunity to make the playoffs with 85-87 points in the shootout era is quite sad. So rest of the NHL or not, the Rangers shouldn't even have a shot at this point.

Points of 8th place team (eastern conference) since the lockout
05-06 - 92
06-07 - 92
07-08 - 94
08-09 - 93
09-10 - 85-87

What's amazing is that we even have a shot at the PO with 82 points and a sub-.500 home record.
That would probably get you 13th place in the West, which is 12 points out of a PO spot.

The EC is a joke and we really don't deserve the playoffs the way we've performed all season.

They want Toronto to finish last so they have the best chance for the number 1 pick.

But they better be careful what they wish for, we might actually catch them

no offense to your team, but imo both the bruins and the rangers would be gauranteed first round exits. I'm alllll about the draft pick right now

No offense taken, both teams are terrible.
