GDT: AHL All Star Game: February 14th, 2005

I thought the game itself deserved it's own thread. It's nice to have some hockey related threads around here instead of constant lockout ones.

Everybody should watch. Forget about the NHL for one day and watch these guys play. At least somebody's playing hockey and these guys are pretty good.

My prediction for Welly tonight.... he will get three points, including a spectacular goal.

A highlight reel goal by Welly will get a lot of threads at HF CLOSED ...

I hope he has a good game this will give fans a good chance to see these kids play .

and fuel more heated discussion of course ..

Wellwood scores 7 minutes into the game. What took him so long?

1-0 for Team Canada.

:lol

never mind the Offense are you watching Welly Defense tonight. He backchecking taking his player deep in his own zone.. Knock down the player going to the net ..

Its good to see.. This year Shedden commented on the turnaround and Welly even in a All-Star game is defensively aware..

Shootout time. I must admit having Spezza and Wellwood on one side is pretty cool.

That was pretty good for an All-Star game.

Andy Hilbert, Michel Oulett and Tomas Plekanec impressed me over the last couple days. Especially Hilbert- I'm starting to think he's a very underrated prospect.

Aside from the goalies, no one player really stood out in tonights game I thought. If I had to pick one, I'd probably pick Spezza but no surprise there.

Nice of you to call Wellwood the future of the Leafs but you are really exaggerating there.

If you go to theahl.com they probably have a good writeup on the game and you can find the boxscore.

He played well, his skating's a lot better than I expected.

Not much space to dangle though, great goaltending as well.

Plekanec won the MVP with 14.1 votes. I think Wellwood was either 5th or 2nd last in the voting; Iím not sure which.

i might have agreed a few weeks ago, but i don't think its an exaggeration anymore. great shot, terrific hands, gretzky's vision, and now blazing speed. what's not to like?

i looked at the boxscore and i see that welly didn't score in the shootout. anyone see what he did? did he try his between the legs move? i can't believe he didn't score.

yeah, he has great wheels.

why was there no space to dangle in an all-star game? were they hitting? was it more like the chl top prospects game?

No he didn't do his between the legs move. He deked left, then tried to stuff it in the right side. Miller was solid. Garon was a sieve at the other end. He looked brutal in the shootout.

There wasn't much space. No hitting, but they were backchecking. A lot more than the NHL All-Star game. I guess it's because most of these guys still are trying to prove themselves.
