Would these servers implode if this was somewhere on the main boards?
Just imagine if Hodgson or Kadri played College hockey and won the Hobby. You would never hear the end of it here.

I imagine that when he was announced the winner, the people that hate hockey in the south started twitching or started banging their heads on the wall.

same, when I saw Geoffrion won the Hobey Baker I went onto this site to see some posts, not much

winning the Hobey Baker is a big thing, you know

I think he will be a solid NHL player but do you guys see top 6 potential in him?

Gustav Nyquist got completely shafted, but it's not like Blake's resume is something to scoff at. Congratulations to him.

This is OBVIOUSLY another part of Bettman's plan to "ruin" Hockey...

I think he deserved it. He has been outstanding this year. I love his game - complete with some edge.

None have won. Some Candians, some Americans, no Europeans. A few Europeans have been finalists over the past decade.

I too thought it would have been Nyquist especially when Geoffrion was winning a few other non-Hobey, end-of-year awards (INCH POY comes to mind). However, I am biased towards the winner being a fan of the MilAds, and UW hockey.

Colin Wilson loses Hobey Baker, wins National Championship.
Blake Geoffreon wins Hobey Baker, loses National Championship.

Go figure.

Watching the National Championship, I kept my eye on Geoffrion. Everyone talks about ceiling but nobody talks about floor. At minimum, he's a Jerred Smithson with stronger faceoff skills. In the game he won 7 of his first 8 faceoffs and was constantly dominating the dot all game long. If he can translate that to the NHL that might be nice. I always wondered if a player can be a special teams specialist and I saw that with Geoffrion. 15 of his 28 goals were PP goals and he saw a lot of time on the PK with Wisconsin. He lived on the boards scrapping and scraping at the puck.

In the begining of the game he played a Hornqvist like role in front of the net but Wisconsin gave up this strategy and you started to see Geoffrion blast from the blue line. The power and speed was above average. Also liked seeinga bit of scrap from him when one of the slewfoot six that is the midgets of BC went down to try and take out Blake's knees.

The game itself was weird. Wisconsin is built with a bunch of larger players where as BC successfully cloned Steve Sullivan and put his 10 clone sout on the ice at forward which paid dividends. If I'm a certain CBJ floater in this boards I would worry about Cody Goubelef's speed. BC constantly burned him and the entire Badger defense speed wise. At the begining of the game I thought the Wisconsin goalie was out of position but it was the speed of BC killing the positioning of Wisconsin and getting to the spots where the goalie can be burned.

I agree BFC. Look at Geoffrion -

He has size.
He plays an advanced defensive game.
He is an above average skater.
He plays smart positional hockey.
He wins faceoffs.

This guy is going to be at minimum a third line/fourth line player in this league. He has played a HUGE role in the US junior championships, and he obviously was the MAN for his team this year in the NCAA championships. He is simply a very complete player. He has potential to be a 2nd line winger, maybe even a first line winger, but there is no doubt in my mind that barring a catastrophe or mental melt-down, this guy is going to be on our third/fourth line very soon.

Let's go point by point on this one.

Size: 6-2 188 per USCHO.com. He will gain some muscle over the summer so conservatively 190. 6'2" 190lbs Still looked a little skinny so he can put on more weight.

Defense: Wisconsin plays a defensive game and that's how Geoffrion was trained. Doesn't also hurt to have had 3 generations of NHL talent in the gene pool and dinner table. Just ask Ryan Suter about that.

Skating: The crappy ice didn't help in Detroit but fact is that he looked like he could keep up with the other players on Wisconsin.....On BC, that's another story.

Positional hockey: Oh yeah. When the puck was loose he always seemed to be present to pick it up.

Faceoffs: Very strong. If that can translate to the NHL.....whoh momma.

Fact is the skillsets shown in College might just translate to Geoffrion becoming a 2nd 3rd line player. You know the ones the fanbase usually *****es and whines about because Trotz is putting a lower level talent on a scoring line. We could be talking AT BEST, a Perrault level faceoff man with a big body, a touch of snarl in his personality, sound defensively, with a scoring touch. I could see him as a Smithson/Ward replacement.

Story time: When the draft was going on I was at the arena and I overheard some people talking about Blake. It was fussing and informal and I snuck in and asked, "Are you Blake's family?" They were and we talked about this and the speculation was either Montreal or Nashville. Then the first round ended and we all left the arena. I went home and heard on the radio Geoffrion was drafted in the second round by Nashville. I thought they over drafted him and this could blow up in Nashville's face.

No one, I repeat, NO ONE thought Geoffrion was a Hobey Baker level talent. As the math goes, only 30% of the 2nd rounders make the NHL and I honestly thought Blake would be one of the 70%. Now, I think it's quite possible after watching the game than he could be 50/50 to make the club out of camp. No, I am not joking. Based on the roster and the cap situation, I think he will be in Milwaukee his first year as the possible first call up. But in 2 years when Smithson and Ward's contracts are up I think he will make the Preds.

I am a tad worried, but that's more than made up for by Cam Atkinson's performance.

The gauge of Hockey is never really skill but speed.

NHL is faster than the AHL/top level NCAA/top half of talent in the CHL which is faster than ECHL/bottom level NCAA D1/D2/D3/top level talent CIS.

There are lots of players with talent but they can't keep up with the speed. I've watched various levels of hockey except of CIS. I gauge them by speed. Gobelef is at AHL level speed now but you can counter act that with good positioning. He can learn that.

Bruins fan and BC fan and I have to tell you that hit was not a bad hit and in fact was a bad call. Joe Whitney literally stuck his ass in Blake's pelvis and his follow thru sent him over Whitney who is only 5:06. it was not a dirty hit at all. Your guy lost his cool several times and I lost some respect for him.

The player who was hitting Blake was 5'6" and bent down to hit Blake who is 6'2" The player hit Blake at thigh level. As for the anger, it's justifiable. Last game of the year with the player going to be signing an NHL contract after the semester. The mechanism of possible injury that would have occured would have been the following:

Strong hit at the thigh level: ACL tear with possible meniscus damage.

If the BC player could not hit another player in the torso, the BC player should not be trying to check a larger player. This isn't football with cut blocking.

Blake Geoffrion signed to ATO

Per the Official Milwaukee Admirals Twitter:

Admirals sign Blake Geoffrion to ATO, he'll look to make his pro debut tonight when the Ads battle the Wolves in Game 2.

Woo Hoo!

Now on the Admirals site as well.

I wonder how much of an effect he will have? Does he play a lot of special teams? PP PK?
