It's different in the sense that Burke never called out his players in the media, forced players to move, then have it blow up in his face and try to maintain some sort of dignity in front the media, while shortly before he spoke of the great relationship he had with Sundin and how he was the one who brought Sundin to Toronto initially. Fletcher looked like a complete boob; and to top it off. The one player he was able to trade (wispers in the media said McCabe would not be permitted to play with the Leafs unless waiving his NTC/NMC) was traded for less than market value, and brought great leadership and a new culture to Florida, yet he (according to Fletch) couldn't and didn't provide that here in Toronto.

Surprisingly to many people, me not being one of them, the players said shove it. Fletcher couldn't get one of them to waive, not a single one, despite being the Silver Fox.

There you go.
MLSE Ownership heading for their 3rd consecutive non playoff year, fired their GM and decided to change the team starting at the top with the Vets. blaming them for the teams Failure. They hired an Interim GM to do their bidding for them as directed.. Lets not pretend the Interim GM was calling the shots here, but rather coming out of retirement and doing as asked.

MLSE desired future GM of choice Burke has a self imposed rule of NEVER approaching a player about waiving his NTC.. So how was MLSE BOG suppose to get from point A and B through veteran player change and to end up with Burke without trying to force out the NMC/NTC players?.. We have no idea what took place behind closed doors and for all we know FAN PRESSURE of going public might have been the last course of action to try and get the Leafs NTC 5 to move on..

However no matter how you slice it or it went down MLSE and Leaf Nations Fans where the big losers as the NTC 5 used their power to defy the wishes of Ownership that resulted in Leafs getting ZERO for Sundin, having to buyout Tucker to get rid of him and forcing McCabe out to the only team that would take him.

The rebuild process that has taken us to this point of 29th overall was attempted to be avoided by getting the highest return for the Muskoka 5 in order to shorten the rebuild and retooling process on the fly.. This bottoming out can be traced back to the actions of that group and their actions which only served their own best interests, regardless if they had the contractual rights.

Mats Sundin ensuring after 13 seasons that MLSE got absolutely NOTHING from him as any residual value on the team today, if nothing else has not put Sundin in good standing with Leafs Ownership and ended his Leafs career by his own actions by the choices he made.

Like I said, Fletcher didn't go about things properly and therefore couldn't get the job done otherwise we'd have a few more B level prospects if he did but with more words.

I don't like fletchers moves either, but to be honest he wasnt the only one that wanted them gone. Everyone pretty much did.

Anybody who thinks Stavros was a great owner does not know of what they speak.

And all of the above does not take into consideration that massive game of B.S. poker played between the ownership group of the Raptors versus the Leafs over who would be first to have a new state-of-the-art arena for Toronto. Obviously Leafs won but it was closer that a lot of people think. Without Ontario Teachers Slaight/Tannebaum (Raptors) may have won.

Geez, if there is not a good book maybe I should write one !!!
I'd love to read a good book about this...if you happen to find out I'd really appreciate the info too.
