(Mod edit, first post) Playoffs scenario updated through Saturday's games

MOD EDIT:

UPDATED THROUGH SATURDAY'S GAMES:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=524836

Quote:
A look at where Eastern Conference teams could end up in the standings with one day of play left:

1. Washington (locked)
2. New Jersey or Buffalo
3. New Jersey or Buffalo
4. Pittsburgh (locked)
5. Ottawa (locked)
6. Boston (locked)
7. Montreal or Philadelphia
8. Montreal or NY Rangers

Notes:
Both Rangers and Flyers can't advance to playoffs as a result of tomorrow's showdown. Winner goes to the playoffs

• Flyers can’t finish eighth - if they win tomorrow, they get 7th. If they lose, they get 9th
• Canadiens earning a point means Rangers’ best possible finish is eighth. A NYR win would put them equal with Canadiens in points and wins but Canadiens won season series (3-1-0 vs. 1-2-1)
• Bruins clinched 6th seed with their win combined with Canadiens loss
• Devils clinched Atlantic Division by beating Islanders combined with Penguins losing in regulation at Atlanta
• Sabres need to win in regulation at New Jersey tomorrow to pass Devils into 2nd
• Penguins vs. Senators is first confirmed playoff matchup

Original Post

After the loss tonight, I'm kinda confused. Tomorrow, when Montreal plays Toronto, and if Montreal loses in regulation, and then on Sunday, even if the Flyers lose (in ot), the Rangers and Flyers still get a playoff spot, and Montreal is eliminated. But, if Montreal loses in ot/wins, then the Flyers have to win on Sunday to get into the playoffs. Is this right?

Yep.

I almost don't want us to make it at this point just so hopefully we can Holmgren.

I think he already did too much damage that can't be fixed.

If we were to get 1 point on Sunday, we would also make it should Boston happen to lose both of their final two games in regulation...regardless of what Montreal does.

I'm just going to get really drunk on draft day and enjoy the comedic aspect.

I can already hear Duthie interviewing Holmgren...

Duthie: "Paul, you mortgaged your franchise's future for a 3 year window shot at the Cup, signed a goalie from Russia with a degenerative hip condition, traded away all your team's picks, wasted your team's cap space on a player playing 3 time zones away, and waited too long to fire your coach, what are you looking to do this summer to improve your situation."

Holmgren: "Well James, I'm happy to report that we've already made progress on solving these problems. We've already signed a Stanley Cup winning goaltender and Vezina winner and are looking forward to bringing the Cup home in 2011."

Duthie: "Oh, you're announcing a signing?"

Holmgren: "Yes, we are proud to introduce the Philadelphia Flyers new starting goaltender, Dominik Hasek! We've signed Dominik to a 5 year deal worth 35 million dollars."

****, I've drank too much to drive anywhere.

But if we do not get any points on sunday, I guess we're out of the playoffs.

And at least at puck drop, all the other games will be over and we will know where we stand.

Here's how we can win. Break Gaborik's leg, shove a bunch of insulation down Tortorella's throat, and kick all of them in the shins real hard.

They still have Henrik though. There's the key.

I don't think Holmgren is going anywhere, at least that's what Luuko said. And I do want them to make the playoffs, every year.

I want them to make the playoffs when it is in the best interest of the team (for example, I did not want them to make it in 2007 so that they could get a good draft pick which would help them acheive success later on).

This year I want them to make the playoffs because there is no draft benefit to miss them. However, the 10th pick overall has historically been a bad spot. It seems like there are more impact players taken in the 20s.

IF we make the playoffs, we can do some damage. The question is getting there. No team chokes in the regular season like the Flyers do.

IMO the only good thing about missing the playoffs is the likelihood of Snider going off like a nuke and gutting this team from the front office down.
