This year is too similar to last years... we clinch a playoff spot with an OT lost (just like last year we clinched in a OT loss to Boston). We also rode a three game losing streak into the playoffs only to get completely swept. Sounds familiar?
I'm just happy we're finally in, but don't have a great feeling we're going to make any noise at all.
Last year we were full of distractions in the dressing room, darkest day in habs history, etc... but this year we are in the same position again, however we have some stanley cup champions Gomez, Gionta, Moen,Gill and hopefully they try and play a little more like they did against Buffalo last weekend, that is the way we can give the top seeded teams a run for their money. We need alot more from Cammy,Akost, Pouliot and Spacek,Hammer. If it just comes down to Halak and Price stopping 40-50 shots to preserve a 2-1 win than thats just more of the same and we will be gone early.
Hey I'm Bergeron biggest critic but I have to eat crow today.
He played very well with Markov, although so could I.
That being said I guess the odd man out will Sergei Kostitsyn.
Martin for once coached the game last night. He used Bergeron on the point for faceoff in the offensive zone and used O'Byrne (sparingly) in defencsive situations.
I think O'Byrne will be used more in a physical playoff series!
Bergeron has been playing well lately on defense. He is still a liability but he didn't do worse than Spacek or even Hamrlik. But most importantly, him being paired with Markov means a potential threat on counter-attack, a better first pass and more power on offense.
And I agree with you on O'Byrne and how the 2 of them should be used.
We need Markov AND Bergeron; without them, our D squad seriously lacks offensive knack. Heck... last night Bergeron had 5 shots (+ 5 blocked/missed shots and one booming shot on the post) on goal... the same amount (5 shots on goal) than Gill in his last 18 games or Gorges in his last 15 games!
Did I mention that we are in? It’s playoffs time in Montréal!
PS a quick note regarding Sergei Kostitsyn: according to Hartley, Sergei K. did not attend the optional game day morning practise despite the fact that he knew he was not playing against TOR. If it is true, it is somewhat disappointing.
