From what I've heard from the zamboni drivers and ice crew, this isn't nearly the case anymore.
It might make the ice better, actually, because they will keep the air conditioning on more.

Not a chance. The Rock was supposed to have the best ice in the NHL due to "revolutionary" technology under the floor too. We all know how that one turned out. Monkeying with the ice for concerts and bball never results in a positive.

From watching games all over the NHL, only a handful of rinks have good smooth ice.
Edmonton's the best, MTL is good, a few others too.
The rinks in our division have real bad ice, Nassau the worst.

That didn't work right for a while, haha. It's not really even that, it's the humidity that these events create. Supposedly that will be taken care of better at the Rock...supposedly.

EDM is often cited as the best ice, but a lot of players have been quoted as MIN now.

It sucks because of the shape of Garden. It locks in humidity. A humid arena does a lot more damage then anything.

Pretty much.

Again, bouncing pucks usually are from humidity, which creates leave some water/slush on top and very hard ice under it. Soft ice (being undercooled from underneath - i.e., bad refrigeration) is seen from pucks that do the opposite and stop completely dead.
This is just what I've learned from the zamboni drivers, ice crew, and a guy who owns his own rink...
New Jersey congressman says he will demand a government inquiry into Mikhail Prokhorov, the Russian billionaire poised to buy the New Jersey Nets, for his extensive business dealings in Zimbabwe -- a bombshell that could blow up the $200 million team deal and threaten the future of Brooklyn's Atlantic Yards, The Post has learned.
Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, wants to know if companies controlled by Prokhorov in Zimbabwe violate federal rules that forbid American citizens and companies, and subsidiaries set up in the United States, from doing business with brutal strongman Robert Mugabe, his regime or associates.
"This is disgusting," Pascrell said. "Obviously, the Board of Governors of the NBA didn't do their job properly when they vetted this deal."
I think this story might have legs, especially if the Treasury Department gets involved here, how on earth David Stern can continue to look the other way on Prokhorov's shaddy business background is beyond me, I always thought he was an man of integrity, don't look like he is anymore.
If this deal is killed so probably is the Brooklyn arena.

Here it comes..."Nets hammer out long term deal to play at rock"
That's not going to happen. Stern does not want the team in NJ anymore. The whole Russian billionaire stepping forward to buy the Nets was a desperate attempt to get Brooklyn going. The Nets are huge money losers, and I doubt moving to the rock as a secondary tenant will make things much better.
Stern is/was under pressure to get the Nets thing fixed. About as much pressure as Bettman is under for Phoenix. The difference is the NHL basically has a gun to the head the City of Glendale, the NBA has no leverage in the Nets case.

yep. and Stern would not be happy if some two-bit house member from Jersey blew this up. he'd move them to Halifax before he'd let them stay in Jersey.
I don't see how is has much of a choice if this gets any more attention, Prokhorov's dealings is with Robert Mugabe who is considered the worst dictator in the world:
Quote:
So, Mugabe must be pretty bad. But how bad?
Last year, Mugabe was rated the worst dictator in the world by Parade Magazine (not exactly a left leaning bleeding heart publication.) His government denies voters their rights, brutalizes the opposition, censors the press, abuses women, inducts children into the army, and criminalizes homosexuality. His regime has a record of torturing students, journalists, even Americans. His country is recognized as one of the global leaders in the trafficking of human lives for forced labor and sexual exploitation. His nation is a place where human rights activists disappear forever.
I don't see how is has much of a choice if this gets any more attention, Prokhorov's dealings is with Robert Mugabe who is considered the worst dictator in the world:
oh, I know how bad Mugabe is and if they connect him to Mugabe, he's toast. probably the second worst thing you could be connected to, other than Iran... which he's probably connected to too, but anyways...
it's just this is Stern's manifest destiny. he will not be happy

I think it's not so much he wants to get the Nets out of NJ but more of he wants another team in NYC and this will probably be his best chance ever at accomplishing this, but your right, this will kill him if this gets killed.
If Pascrell is so outraged by this why didnt he complain months ago ahead of the drop dead date?
Something (actually, more than a few things) smell fishy here.
It's possible that he didn't know of this connection until just recently, I know I haven't heard of this until know and 60 Minutes never brought it up unless I missed it since I didn't watch it all, I can't imagine they of all people would not have raised the issue.
