They aren't fighting for more .. they're fighting to give up 25% instead of 35% ... approximate figures.
yeah, but they know that the owners would give that back and more in 2 or 3 years. so that roll back is a joke. the players don't want the cap because it protects the owners against themselves from overspending.
Chico really hit everything. He sees the whole situation and tried to do something to not let this happen. I think he was really upset, hence him sounding so "blah" or drunk. He really seemed upset. He has a good head on his shoulders and realizes what he has in this life. The players should have been able to vote.
Throughout all of this, assigning blame to each side, there are guys like this who just want to play and just feel like Robert does. I feel bad for those guys. Because it's the majority of the league that are in Robert's situation.

Clarke sounded more like a fan. He said that there were 2 guys who were hired to get a deal done and they didn't do it. I may think Bettman is more of an imbicle and baffoon and imcompetent than Goodenow, but Clarke is totally right.
Bobby Clarke -- voice of reason!! Who knew?!?! Put him in the mix.
you KNOW snider had to reign clarkie in. how much do you think he wanted to come out and start knee-capping people right there in front of the cameras?
Hitchcock says now he'll look and see what the league will allow him to do, perhaps help friends who are head coaches somewhere. Said he won't go coach in Europe or anything, that he is loyal to the Flyers and won't do anything to violate his contract.
I would love for Hitch to do one of two things. 1, help coach the Phantoms and their young guys, or 2, help Hartsburg in SS Marie.
TSN in Canada showed only a brief clip of Snider's press conference, and he looked like he was on the verge of a heart attack. Generally what did he say? who did he blame?

thanks.
Something that he never said is that the system wasn't working for the Flyers. When he commennted on the old system he said it wasn't working for other teams.
Anyone with rational thought knows that the system was fine for the Flyers because they know what they're doing.

did anyone ask snider if he thought about selling out due to the lockout?

They did...and his response, as found at philly.com (an Inquirer article, to be specific):
Quote:
A downcast Snider was asked if yesterday's developments might be enough to make him want to get out of the business.
"Right now I don't want to answer that question," he said.
Then Snider answered the question.
"But obviously, I don't want to get out of hockey," he said.
It absolutely sucks that it came to this. I want Goodenow and Bettman both strung up for their absolute failure to get this done. And here's hoping it doesn't completely kill the NHL in the U.S. How do these people not realize the position the league is in? It's a DISTANT 4th here. It has a joke of a TV deal. And still, the owners are too busy wanting to break the union and the union leadership is too busy trying to hold onto the gravy train from the last 10 years or so, which is ridiculous.
And props to Esche for being a voice of reason, and props to Clarke and Snider as well. This actually makes me feel better, to know that the team I follow is one of the teams that has an owner that cares, and a GM who is as passionate about the game as the fans are.
i thought the fact that he said "hockey" not the "nhl" was sort of interesting... he's definitely got some pent up feelings about this whole thing that he isn't voicing publicly.

He was furious, and would have signed the NHLPA offer or a deal in the mid-40's in a second.
I love Robert Esche. He sounds so good. "We're playing in a glorified youth hockey league and I realize how lucky we are. I'm one of the lowest paid starting goalies in the league, but I am happy to be making what I am to be playing this game"
So Awesome. He's really going off now. It's great.
Yeah, I'm a Ranger fan in central jersey so far be it from me to sing the praises of a Flyer but that whole segment with Esche was amazing. He just gets it. Truly he spoke from his heart and more as a fan of a sport he loves and LIVES for. Oh and I wouldn't blame him if it turned out he was a lil tipsy. If I just watched something that I lived for go down the tubes then I'd probably down a few also....
"What I wanna do is find a reason why, a redneck like myself, is losing 775,000 grand in a sport that I fought for my whole life....I wanna justify that...."
