Ted Ruth Signs Entry Level Contract

Per Twitter of both Lori Schmidt and Aaron Portzline:

Quote:
Columbus Blue Jackets have signed Notre Dame D Theo Ruth (acquired in Fedorov trade) to a 3-year entry level contract.

Good to hear. I've seen him play over a dozen times, he's a great player defensively. Does this mean he'll forego his senior year and play for Springfield?

Just an hour or so after Scott "The Torg" Torgerson was ripping him for not being a pro yet.

With Moore, Ruth, maybe Savard and Goloubef, and of course Regner, Clitsome, Holden and a free agent or two (Bell or Sigalet back?) the Falcons defense is shaping up to be young and exciting next season.

Teddy Ruth is not only great defensively, he is great in the locker room. Captain potential.

I throughly enjoyed watching him play at Notre Dame the past 3 years.

I love that we're starting to see some of these picks and trades from the last few years beginning to take the next step.

When I look at a 2nd round draft pick who is a junior, going into their senior year - bad.

Something along those lines.

He then backed his point up by pointing to Zac Dalpe, who is leaving after two years at Ohio State.

Comparing a forward and a defensive defenseman makes perfect sense all of the time!

I would not be surprised if Will Weber is offered a contract soon too. Same draft class as Ruth. Will has progress each year since the draft and the next step should be the AHL. He's 6'4" and plays a phisical game.

I was fortunate enough to meet Ted and his family when I was working at the draft; you could not possibly encounter any nicer people than them. I wish Ted all the best in his professional hockey career.

I'm just hoping he ends up being paired with John Moore. Then we can have a pairing of MORE TRUTH.

Definitely. I love this group and I'm of the opinion that there are 2 or more good NHL defenseman in there.

Ruth, a 6-0, 201 pounder, is from Naperville, Ill. He had 0-5-5 and 52 penalty minutes in 22 games with the Irish this season, an injury-shortened campaign. Most believe his best season was his freshman season, that his game has declined slightly since the Fedorov trade

That doesn't sound to promising.

I was trying to hear the report on what color shirt Pryor was wearing today. Then they started talking about hockey.

See, this is why we have to hope he manages to become an NHL defenseman. The possibilities are endless.
