Sorry, but what's the most recent about Leighton. I'm not sure anymore how long he was said to be out. When could we expect him to return, provided we survive the playoffs long enough?
It was 7 or 8 weeks like a month ago. Like HC said, If we get that far it will be because Boucher has been playing well. I doubt they think about putting Leighton back in after that kind of injury anyway, unless Boucher gets blown out.
Leighton was riding a once in a lifetime hot streak. Even if we make it past the Debs you don't put a cold career third stringer into the middle of the playoffs.
I would want Leighton as our backup, Backlund is an ECHL goalie.
I agree with the first part which is exactly why I'm asking the question (seems a lot of people mistook me wanting to start Leighton all of a sudden). I strongly disagree with the 2nd part though. Backlund was pretty much the reason the Phantoms had a chance to get into the playoffs before March started and they completely blew up.

Backlund has the potential to be a solid NHLer. If I were you, I'd start to warm up to him because I would bet that he's going to get to see some starts with the Flyers next season.

If he doesnt go back to Europe. We can't have 3 backup goalies on the team and no starter
Even if, hypothetically, Leighton somehow comes back by the second round and the Flyers make it to the second round, I'd go with Backlund over Leighton if Boosh falters.

2 goalies for the Phantoms, 1 backup for the Flyers (let Boosh, Leights and Backlund battle it out) and a starter that Homer can work out over the summer? I'd be pretty damn happy with our goalie situation if that was the case. Who knows how realistic it is though.

I think you'd be alone in that thought process. I think Lavy and Homer both would opt for Leighton, there have been 2 games so far that he hasn't played well for the Flyers, why wouldn't you want to go with him?

The thought of Homer and Lavy not even considering Backlund would worry me more than having Backlund in net. Management would need to consider (if this situation were to arise):
- How well is Backlund playing currently at practice
- How will is the team playing in front of the goalie
- What is the series standing
- Is Leighton even in playoff mode/shape both physically and mentally
- Etc
Far more factors would need to be weighed in and to just opt for Leighton because he has performed well PREVIOUSLY would be (in my personal opinion) idiotic.
/not defending backlund and would prefer Leighton... but would prefer a W over my goalie preference when/if the time comes.
The point is: if we are in the playoffs long enough for Leighton to be healthy, it is because Boucher has played well, so he wont get replaced
The good thing about a 7 game series is that if a goalie implodes early, you have a chance to correct it.
If Leighton is healthy and Boucher has a bad game, I'm 100000% sure Laviolette won't hesitate to pull that trigger regardless of how instrumental Boucher was to us arriving in the playoffs.

I was speaking as if both were equally healthy. And when I said he has played well previously, I'm considering how he has walked into situations where you would expect him to fail and he doesn't... like when Emery was back for around 10? games or so then had to be pulled and Leights picked up right where he left off and played exceptionally.

this..... if it was still Stevens behind the bench, it would probably be a different story though.
