Fifteen feet away, Julie Herges of Milaca announced that she had decided to forego her lower-deck season-tickets when the renewal notice came last month. Here was an invested fan deciding to make the Wild pay for its sins of this season and for those seven years without getting as far as the NHL's final eight in the playoffs.
Right?
"The reason I'm done as a Wild fan is because there was a quote from Derek Boogaard in the program saying that he would 'puke' if the U.S. won the gold medal in hockey," Herges said. "I wrote a letter to the Wild saying I thought it was terrible. Even though Boogaard's a Canadian, they shouldn't have that in a program.
"I'm so upset at the Wild I'm going to get my tattoo [of its logo] removed. It's right here."
Reusse is such an idiot. Basically, he's saying that you shouldn't follow a team if they aren't competitive. Congratulations, you are EXACTLY the reason that Minnesota pro sports fans are labeled frontrunners.
Before I even read the article: Has Reusse ever said one thing positive about any Minnesota Sport? Is he just supposed to be a "shock columnist" or something?
And the reason I'm not renewing mine for next year is $6200 just for the tickets alone was too much. Them going up from $65 to $72 without warranting the price increase is beyond absurd. That is close to $1600 more a year just for tickets. Not including the $500 for the parking pass and the average $70/game for concessions. If this were the Red Wings, or hell even the Penguins, I would fork it out. One season of playoff series wins (2003) and tickets have gone up close to 100% since those games.
Well it's all about supply and demand, I see much of the demand falling this year, I'm not sure why they think they will do better by increasing ticket prices, it's not like they're not making enough money.

What!? A team that doesn't make the playoffs raises the ticket prices? Are they trying to ruin their sell-out streak? When my girlfriend and I go to a game and spend $200+++ on tickets, parking, food and beer, then I look on eBay and see 3rd row, lower bowl tickets for a Coyotes game going for $8/ticket (at least that's how it was in Oct/Nov), I get pretty depressed.
Basketball is a different game, you can only play 5 guys at a time, like hockey, but those 5 play a lot more of the game than do guys in hockey. 1 player can take over a game and single-handedly win games like LeBron does. The Wolves need a guy to do to that, so they need to get a monster guy because that's what seems to do it in the NBA.
They will probably see the sellout streak end with increasing ticket prices, I'm not sure why they would do that.
What about baseball? Half of the inning they play 9 guys and the other half they play 1 - so that averages out to 5 per inning! And they usually play the whole game. That's better than basketball! Think about it...
Not quite. They average 5 players per inning AND they generally are never substituted for, therefore they actually play MORE than basketball players, which theoretically makes it easier to stack your system with prospects!!!
1. average 5 players per inning
2. ???? = stack your system with prospects
3. Profit!

Well its pretty simple really. The tickets they don't sell before game time are dropped to a stupid amount so people will buy them. Tie in the fact that the standing room only people count as "butts in the seats" since its the attendance, you pretty much don't have to worry about the sellout streak ending anytime soon. Everything is pretty aggressive with how much they charge, and they know for the bigger name games people will shell out the big loot anyways.
