Not that it was necessarily my impression as well as I never paid attention to Gears of War, but it's kind of a split in the gaming crowd. It's usually from the older crowd but there are those of us that can look at say... Kirby:
Look past the silly/cute art & design and appreciate the inherent fun in the game where as the other side, usually male teenagers and young adults right it off as kiddy. On this side dark, gritty, violent, steroid injecting macho soldiers are seen as 'hardcore' and cool. Of which Gears of War is an obvious poster child for it.
Now there's a time & place for everything, but for big budget titles more and more of the bright colourful characters of old are being replaced by brown & grays colours to appeal to this specific demograph.
It takes the Xbox crowd and this mindset to take something fun like this:
Wow, what an exaggeration. The x360 crowd didn't even like that game.
Besides its about gameplay more than anything. And Gears has wicked gameplay.
Further WTF do you even mean by x360 crowd?
I own an x360 and a Wii, like Kirby games and Gears of War what crowd am i apart of?
Well it's pretty obvious online that a large section of the 360/PS3 crowd hates the Wii where as others still like both sides, I was referring to the former.
Also I know that no one liked that Bomberman, I was more referring to the design choice of the developers to take the bright and colourful bomberman and think it's a good idea to 'hardcore' it, as an over exagerated example of the trend the game industry is following. Remember that SniperHF said:
That's funny, the first time I saw the original Gears trailer I knew gaming as I love it is dead. Pretty odd to be a dinosaur at 24 years old.
In regards to the original Gears of War, and I was just expanding on what I believe he was referring too. I like the full spectrum of genre's as well, but it's pretty obvious that one of them has been increasingly taking over the game industry this past decade.
Personally i dont give a **** what the trailer looks like. Im buying this game no matter what, i loved both gears of war games and im looking forward to the new one. I think the graphics have looked awesome on both and the new game wont be sure to disappoint. The only thing that matters to me is when this puppy comes out.
Im agreed about the multiplayer. The second game is tough because of the lag. it looked like id be shooting the enemies but no damage was being doled out. So freaking annoying.
I absolutely loved and was amazing (the best ever) at the original Gears of War. I beat the campaign for the sequel in one sitting and really didn't like the multiplayer. It honestly had the shortest live-life I've ever seen amongst my friends.
