Pretty sure he lead the nation in PP goals and was always Coach Eaves first choice to send out on a PK. Geoffrion and Flynn were the top PK unit for the US WJC team a few seasons ago...

Not sure how much time he'll get in Milwaukee to start, but knowing that the organization has high hopes for him, he will probably be playing in all situations pretty much right away...

I'm hoping so. I honestly believe with the year he's having he COULD break with the Preds even with the contracts on the roster at the forward position.

Limited roster openings and "...the road to Nashville goes through Milwaukee..." are the biggest obstacles, but his style of play is closer to what Trotz wants than most of the other guys we've seen. When you're a player committed and sold on playing as a two-way forward, that's half the battle to making the Preds roster---I really think he's a Trotz kind of player in spades.

Watching Geoffrion play this year kind of reminded me of when Hartnell was with Nashville......if Hartnell could skate, play defense, take face-offs or had a brain.

Agreed BUT, Geoffrion is in Milwaukee right now. I think the Ryan Jones situation scared them off and I do believe they will have Blake in Milwaukee next year but I DO believe he has the talent to play.

Geoffrion would be an extra forward on this team as things stand, and probably on next year's team as well. There's no point in keeping him on the roster when he won't play. It's in his best interest to spend at least one full year in the minors before making the jump.

I'd say you have to at least look at what Wilson has proved so far without a "full" season in Mil. and consider letting him take someone's spot. With us needing to re-sign Horns and maybe Hammer, I'd personally like to see one or two of our "role players" moved and an opprotunity to get him on the roster. Providing he's good enough outta camp.

I personally dislike the "road to Nashville..." mentality. If you have a kid good enough to skate in the NHL, let him play. He'll either sink or swim, but if he swims he'll adapt alot quicker IMO.

Disagree to a point. Sinking or swimming works for some, but if the confidence of a kid gets hammered because he's not used to the speed of the game, that can set back his development by years. If you get a Stamkos or a Crosby in a draft, that's different, but guys like that only come every few years.

Geoffrion unavailable after the game. Preliminary reports are an ankle injury of some sort. Description of the play and quote from the coach are in the game recap.

I'm thankful it doesn't appear to be his knee, but...there are still plenty of ankle injuries I wouldn't wish upon any hockey player that have me very worried until we hear otherwise...

Best wishes Blake on a positive prognosis and a quick recovery...

from the tennessean

"Predators general manager David Poile said Blake Geoffrion’s ankle injury last night in the AHL playoffs against Chicago is only a sprain."

http://blogs.tennessean.com/predator...ffrion-update/

Sounds like he may have dodged a bullet.

I was a tad late due to the fact that I was finding the existing thread, properly posting links to the source, and updating the title of the thread...what's your excuse?

any idea why only a two year deal? I thought ELC's were usually 3 years..

Interesting question. They usually are, do you think that was one of the sticking points?

Engren also signed a two-year ELC. I think it's just that he's an older prospect and wants to sign a new deal after a couple of years of professional hockey...sink or swim...

I think as you get older the age of 20 ELC's have reduced lengths.

Correct. The length of an ELC is set by the player's age and cannot be negotiated.

18-21...3 years
22-23...2 years

that makes sense. would be unfair to force a 23 year old to take a 3 year deal. hed finish one year from ufa status..

Any chance the kid cracks the NHL lineup? Or is he AHL bound?

He's AHL bound. That's just the way it works with Trotz.
