Splinter Cell Conviction demo out

A bit short considering the file size (1,19 gigs). First Splinter Cell game I've played...and I'm afraid I was too rambo for this game.

as a ps3 owner, I'm a bit jealous. this game looks pretty good. You have to be a certain kind of person to play stealth games though. This was the reason I was horrible at the Hitman games. I'd go into each mission guns a blazin', and I'd get a mass murderer rating each time. My feeling about stealth games is the same as my feeling about RTS games, I like them, I just wish I was better at them.

I'll try out the demo tonight. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised since I haven't been impressed with Splinter Cell's new direction so far.

Meh It is really short and way to slow paced for me. Seems even slower then MGS which i thought was slow. i know.....its suppose to covert. Just not my type of game i guess. The controls seemed ok and the game looked good so I'm sure for sam fisher fans it is probably a very good game.

I used to be a SC fan back in the last generation, but, going by all the previews so far, they've lost me.

"Mark and Execute" is awful IMO. It is 100% taking you out of the game if you ask me. Putting icons on guys and clicking one button to watch canned and uninterrupted, non-controlable sequences of kills is just not my idea of game immersion. I cannot stand the gimmick/gameplay mechanic at all. I get why it's there. I get that you control who he's shooting and when to take them out, bu you aren't actually doing it yourself.

"Last Known Position" also rubs me the wrong way. Again I understand the use of it, and in theory (and execution in-game) works, but in my opinion, it's just an aspect of the game that kind of ruins it for me. I don't want some visual queue on screen to show me where enemies supposedly last saw me. It's just not my kind of thing.

And lastly, the mission objective displayed on objects. Looks cool, very different, but the style just doesn't suit me. Yet another thing that makes the game less immersive to me. The on-screen HUD is one thing, but to add all of these gimmicks/features/mechanics just screams "Disappointing Game of the Year" to me.

And I know the game isn't out yet, but that's irrelevant to me. These things don't need to be tested or tried out to know they're deal breakers for me. Unfortunately, since I used to love the old SC games.

Edit- And also, the animations are terrible. Most of them don't look realistic and the physics are awful for the most part. And judging by the demo, the graphics, player models and voice acting in the cutscenes are crap.

Just as I feared, they have ruined Splinter Cell.

I'm going to look to see if there's any news about the multiplayer, cause a return to skill-based 2v2 multiplayer is about the only way I'll buy this game. I'm not holding my breath for good news.

*sigh*

See to me Last Known Position and Mark & Execute seems awesome. *shrug*

I think this game will have people split.

I didn't like the one for 360. The first one for 360. I can't get into games like these. Tom Clancy games always bore me.

I tried to go into the demo with an open mind, but I'll admit I'm probably a bit biased Ubisoft suddenly made a dramatic change to one of my favorite gaming series. I absolutely loved hiding in the shadows waiting for the right moment to slowly sneak past enemies, and this game is kinda the polar opposite of that. Even when playing stealthy you're cruising through the level.

I might feel differently if Conviction was a new series instead of being labeled a Splinter Cell game, but I feel like I gave the demo a fair shot. I'll probably still rent it out of curiosity though.

Apparently the demo is the same on that was shown at the TGS last year. A Finnish games mag played a different demo (sounded a much better demo than this one) at the X10 event and the guy playing it was impressed with it.

Ya, the demo actually prevented me from buying the game when it comes out. The small sample size has nothing to do with it. It's the new gameplay mechanics/gimmicks that ruined it for me.

Previews tend to be pretty positive. It's not really uncommon to see a game get good previews then negative reviews.

IGN gave it 9.3

However the game offers more in multiplayer than single player... campaign is 5 hours!

Didn't think a game could be shorter than MW2.

Five hours is borderline criminal.

In general I'm looking more forward to the multi-player.

A five hour campaign pretty much kills it for me, though this really isnt Splinter Cell anymore. After all of those delays I would have though they could squeeze out more than a day's worth of gameplay.

5 hours?!

At the pace you have to play Splinter Cell, that could be two levels.

Just bought the game yesterday and went through the first few levels of the solo campaign pretty easily. It's fun, but nothing overly challenging. Where this game shines is the multiplayer. The co-op campaign is supposed to add another 4-6 hrs of gameplay, and it is much more challenging to stay stealthy when you have to coordinate with another person (also double the chances of getting caught). Dunno why but the AI seemed alot smarter in the co-op as well. Only got through 1.5 levels of the co-op, but it is hella fun. Also, there's the deniable ops portion of the multiplayer that I haven't tried yet but that sounds pretty fun too. Only thing I'm slightly worried about is the recycled environments but since the objectives and play style are quite different I'm hoping it will still be entertaining.
