he's still playing ^^

you could've just checked the stats thread ^^

He's played 33 games with 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points and has a +5 rating.

Is he still experiencing problems with alcohol (and/or drugs)?

Yup. Missed a couple of games and rehearsals this season due to alcohol...

He's Juntti-Jere so of course he must be.

I'd hate to have a player like him close to young promising players...

Yes, leave HIFK and come to lande to play for HPK. Our promising young players would like him here. And lots of juntti-friends also.

He's as close to the complete package as a defenseman as it comes... All he lacks really on the ice is a bit better vision and he'd be an all-star like d-man if his attitude wasn't what it is.

Juntti is a hard word to translate. The movie Joe Dirt was called Juntti-Joe... So something like careless-dirty I guess.

Hmm I would translate "juntti" as hillbilly or redneck. And I must also say that we hillbillies up here (Oulu) would have some use for that drunkard...

Juntti = Junkie...maybe?

When he was playing for the Kings, he was looking like a future top NHL defenseman. He had a laser shot, skated well, he was a terrific Dman. It sucks he wasted his talent...

He looked even more starlike on the preds IMO. His defensive side went on a boom and became alot better after awhile on the kings and the preds. He didn't always look for that huge hit anymore, but played alot more positional and read the play better.

And he topped the checking-list in NHL for a time and is still very agressive.

He has some problems with alcohol yes, but he hasn't used any drugs since he got caught in 1996.

Juntti = Redneck or Hillbilly, not a junkie.

Jere is a great player and will achieve a lot. Before last season he made a 5-year contract to HIFK and will proboably play the rest of his carreer here.

BTW: He was chosen to Team Finland in the world cup but NHL didn't let him play. He knocked out Janne Niinimaa from the team, so I think that tells how good player he still is.

A bio I read says he's from Helsinki. You can be from the big city and still be a redneck?

It's more about his wreckless lifestyle and piss-poor attitude...

In Finland, there's no big cities so I think we're all sort of rednecks here.

I was seriously bummed about what happened with Karalahti as a Preds fan. We traded our best player(at the time) for him..and he looked absolutely terrific paired with Timonen for the rest of the season...but the NHL said "rules are rules" in regard to their substance abuse program...and it included no drinking...so Jere said, "well, that's fine. I'll go back to Finland where I can play and drink all I want." He was really great for us, though

Instead of redneck, I'd use the word dumbass.

Nomorekids, I too was sad that he "chose alcohol" over the NHL as I had high hopes for him. Perhaps he could have stayed had the substance abuse program been less "religion heavy"?
