Intermediate sticks... for an adult?

I've been wanting a high flex stick for awhile now. I'm only 5'9" and I cut down my sticks 3 inches, which always puts them at 95+ flex.

I was wondering if any adult here uses an intermediate stick. I figure if I get an intermediate stick, I'd go with a 75-85 flex. 90+ flex is just too stiff for me.

Any thoughts? Or should I stick with seniors? I'm 5'9", 185lbs 22 years old.

If you need a lower flex, get a lower flex. 85 is a senior flex, as is 75 for a lot of makers.

I would try a 75 senior first.

And higher flex typically means stiffer.

I think Reebok is making 58" 75 flex sticks now. They might be perfect for you, since you could cut 2-3 inches off and still be around 85 flex.

I use an Inter OPS and an Inter shaft. I'm short, barely 5'7, and after getting a Senior to the length I like the flex just isn't right. I'd measure your Seniors and compare that to the listed lengths on Inters as some companies have different lengths. I think Easton's listed flex ratings are AFTER the stick is cut down an inch or two. If you want more whip, you'll have to go Inter.

int sticks are fine for adults, it's cheaper as well so there's another advantage. if you get an int shaft, it'll fit sr blade. some pro player use int sticks, so don't just think you're certain weight and height you have to use a sr sick. personal preference when it comes to things like this, play around with the setting till you find your flex.

I have a 75 flex Dolomite, but after cutting it 3" it's as stiff as a board.

And by high flex, I mean highly flexible. I'm aware that a 100 flex is stiffer than a 75 flex. Kind of ironic, but yeah.

I'm 5'10" and i use intermediates. i weigh about 140 lbs

the flex point will also have a bearing on how stiff the stick feels.

for example, i swore off low flex-point sticks after using an intermediate Warrior Dolomite shaft, feeling that it was too stiff.

i had an intermediate NB One95 OPS that i added a one inch plug to and it felt very whippy.

now i'm on a RBK 10K intermediate light-flex that feels stiffer than the One95 at approx the same length (took 1/2 inch off) and i'm liking it

I'm 5"8 and i use a 85 flex CCM, which ive cut down for about 3 inches. I weigh 176lbs. I can get good shots off when i get on the ice and have lots of strenght. I start to get tired for having to use so much force to get the stick to flex and my shots start going downhill as the game progresses. Im going to start the next season with a 77 flex shaft and see how it goes from there.

I am 5'10" 150lbs and use intermediate sticks. They work well for me.

Let me preface this by saying I like a whippy stick. I was using 75 flex adult sticks which I liked before cutting.

I'm 5' 9" 165lbs and made the switch to INT sticks a few months ago... absolutely LOVE IT! No plans to go back any time soon. Flex and length are perfect and not having to cut them down means they feel more balanced.

If you want to try it out, my advice would be start with a less expensive stick. No sense is wasting money on something you may hate.

A while back I bought a 75 flex Warrior Dolomite intermediate. Thing snapped faster than any of my other sticks. I'll never venture outside of senior 85 again.

Personally I'm a big fan of the AK27 sticks because they come shorter than most other sticks.

I'm 5'8 170, cutting down a 75 flex usually gets them in the 95-100 flex range, and that's just a bit stiff for me. I'll be trying intermediate (again) to hopefully get them in the 80 flex range.

Easton seems to make sticks that are designed to be cut down a bit before they hit the marked flex rating. Unless I'm mistaken...

I like a whippy stick for inline where the puck is lighter, but i've tried it on ice and it just feels awful with the heavier puck. maybe it needs some getting used to.

If it works for you, go for it, by all means.

I'm using a (Sr.) Warrior Mac Daddy, 75 flex. I like a really long stick, so I also have about a 4" wooden plug in the end, so the flex is probably closer to 65-67. I'm 6'2" around 190 lbs. It's all about personal preference.

Wow, xxx whippy! More companies are making shorter or less stiff versions for smaller players, Reebok/CCM with their mid flexes and Easton with the extra whippy sticks are good examples.

I'm a small adult male, 5'6 140, and I love my intermediate One95 67 flex, cut down about 2". Senior sticks just aren't made for me.

I once found a SENIOR easton stick with 67 flex (or whatever Easton's number is in the 60s). I asked the sales guy about it and he said one of the employees custom ordered one from easton - they make it, but stores generally don't stock any since it's not very popular. I actually thought about picking it up, but I didn't want to pay that much for a stick (It was a SE something, price tag was around $250 cdn).

5'11'' and 240lbs. I use an Int Easton SE6 right now, uncut. I lose maybe half an inch in length from my senior 85 flex warrior 2pc. I can shoot fine with the warrior, but it takes a lot more effort compared to the INT stick, thats what I like the most.

But as big as you are, unless you are really weak for your size, you're losing velocity on any shot you can load up at all.

I think his point is, he doesn't have to work as hard to load up an INT stick.

What we're seeing here is flex itself is mostly personal preference. The choice to go with an INT stick as an adult is based on height of the player and the length of SR sticks. Guys under 5' 10" end up cutting down a SR stick to INT dimensions. If they like a low flex rating they are SOL if they are using SR sticks.

Is there any difference in the shaft diameter of an INT stick?

I've never measured one, but they feel a little smaller.

it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer...

Of the stick I have owned:- Bauer, TPS & Warrior are noticably smaller... most noticable for Warrior & TPS

my current Reebok int feels like a senior (CCM also i think)
