According to one Russian source the Flyers have offered Sergei Bobrovsky a contract comparable to Semyon Varlamov and Anton Hudobin.

He's very similar to Varlamov, and many think he's actually better.

In Russia, Bobrovsky is well-known as Varlamov’s main opponent for his age. For example, in 2008, former Russian WJC team coach Sergey Nemchinov neglected to call Varly and ask him to play on his World Junior Championship team. Nemchinov instead preferred Bobrovsky. Why? Here’s what he was quoted as saying at the time:

I sincerely hope so. I just want people to stop thinking Emery is anywhere near an option for this team next year.

the good news is that if we can only get bobrovsky, and neither of scrivens or rynnas, then I think there is a better chance we can keep backlund.

NHL:UFA
Boucher

AHL:Backlund
Bobrovsky (split their playing time, 50/50)

ECHL:Who cares

when ericsson(sp?) is ready to come over, we can decide which goalie to drop. Maybe we wont have to, as one of the AHL goalies can take over for Boucher after his contract is up.

My gut feeling:

NHL
Ellis
(Schneider)Leighton/Backlund(Boucher)

AHL
Bobrovsky
(Schneider)Leighton/Backlund(Boucher)

ECHL
Riopel
Stewart

Also, here's what I wrote about Bobby on the prospects thread:

I'm really curious to see if the Flyers are willing to bring in a guy in Ellis who hasn't played more than 44 games in an NHL season.

Yeah, I know they did it with Emery recently not playing many games, but I'm curious nonetheless.

If Boucher gets us out of round one, he's earned his backup job back. Especially since he is already signed

If Leighton or Backlund would play AHL that would be cool to split with Bobo, with Riopel as the 3rd.

I'm wondering if someone with the Flyers organization is yelling "The Russians are coming!!!! The Russians are coming!!!!" Anyways, it's about time that they started bringing in more Russians. The last good one they had here was Tertyshny and it's a shame that they waited so long to bring other Russians in.

I'm also thinking they might have to take a look at bringing in some sort of mentor for these young Russians. Everywhere you look, every organization that has brought in young Russians have also brought in a mentor for the guys. Makes me wonder if they'll take a look at a guy like Slava Kozlov or Ruslan Salei to mentor these guys.....

I loved Tertyshny. I was very upset when he passed away. He was too young.

Markov was the last russian I recall on our team who I liked.

yeah its true the flyers seem to be one of the only teams without any sort of russian threats. im glad to see this, russian goalies can be legit, just look at vezina finalist bryzgalov.

people need to stop talking about emery. its most likely his career is over, which im sad about, as i loved the way he played when healthy. stuff happens. its over. lets move on.

He looks very different from Varlamov in the videos you posted of him. His stance and movement is way closer to Nabakov in terms of technique. I'm skeptical regarding the significance of his success in terms of his NHL potential but what the hell, it can't hurt.

He doesn't do it often though right? So that's good.

Remember, I can only get glimpses of him. From what I've seen and what I've read he is a little more like Varlamov than Nabokov.

Nothing will count in my head really until I get a chance to see him this summer.

I'm hoping to make it to camp this year.

Is Eriksson coming out?

Prospects camp, probably. I wouldn't bet on him or Bertilsson showing up to rookie camp though.

I should be floating about at all three camps this summer.

Khodubin is a sick little goalie. I don't think he'll stick in the NHL (for a couple reasons) but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. I loved watching him play against the Flyers this year and in the AHL all star game.

the waterboy is no doubt coming back and will be the backup. At worst as you said in the ahl. Bob Backlund i have no clue. Leighton will walk. Free agent or trade to be the starter.

I wish I got to see more of Backlund this year.
