Roenick's Kings thoughts on our midwest sports show

Boy he gave some interesting take on the Kings. Lots of fun quotes.

One thing he mentioned and the hosts agreed (Vic The Brick agreed as well) was that the Kings fans are way better than Lakers fans. he says that the Kings fans are so rowdy at Staples compared to other arenas that it is one of the few true home field advantages in hockey. He mentioned that if the Kings can go far they will become a huge hockey town. Says the media is thirsting to glamorize the Kings.

He mentioned that he spoke with Weber of Nashville and Weber said that of all the teams in the west that he fears it's the Kings. Said he mentioned the young defensemen and the fearlessness of some of the vets.

They all said that Modin and Halpern will go a long way in helping the Kings and that they should resign both. JR said Halpern is scary to play against for reasons he won't go into.

JR said that Drew needs no praise for obvious reasons but Jack is the most underrated player in the NHL. Says it's hard to imagine he's underrated but he does so many little things that go unnoticed. He mentioned that Jack is as dirty a player as there is and that people are scared to get in a pile with him. He clarified that while he called him dirty, his defenition of dirty is when a player will do anything to get in their heads. He mentioned that you'd be suprised the amount of fear the league has of him. Mentioned Pheneof. It seemed like he stuck his foot in his mouth by calling him dirty and tried to backpeddel. He said Jack followed Chellios around for two weeks and Chellios glows when speaking of him. They spent like 3 minutes gushing over the DD JJ possibilty of the future.

Made a very interesting comment about Brown. Said when Brown shows up to the arena as a NHL player and not a rock star he's tough to play against. There was all sorts of venom in that comment.

There was a bit more but I focused on the juicy stuff. It almost sounded like the guy was drunk. I'm going to try to see if there is some sort of podcast.

Oh, the irony, JR.

Dustin Brown seems to me the least likely to consider himself a rock star...He looks real humble. At leasts thats the vibe I get. Never met him or anything. Maybe JR was drunk indeed!

JR is very knowledgeable. He's also a tool. He usually demonstrates both of these traits within a few sentences.

Regarding JJ, I've thought he was one dirty SOB for quite some time now. He doesn't hit like many people hoped for, but he really gives it to people in the defensive zone. Elbows, slashes, crosschecks... he can be pretty relentless.

JR lives in Phoenix right...I wonder if he kept his place in LA because he has been out here a bit recently...

Brown is the last guy you'd tag with a "rock star" attitude. I think he was confusing Brown with someone else.

He does bring up an interesting topic with Halpern and Modin, I never understood how effective these guys could be in the playoffs. Looking by the way they both play (especially Modin) and their veteran presence in these games with Vancouver, I'm starting to realize how essential experience and character is in the playoffs. I hope we resign these guys because they're paying dividend for us now.

I didn't hear the interview with JR, but I took his comments about Brown a little different.

I think he was slamming someone else on team. Maybe someone JR feels who shows up for the game dress like he's about to go on a photo shoot <Frolov?> rather than showing up looking like they want to work?

That's the way it reads to me. Especially when you consider JR made a career of allowing his mouth to take a lot away from his on ice achievements. The upside was he was referred to as a "heart and soul" type of player.

Frolov has spent his career being the exact opposite, which gives him the reputation of not caring.

I would take an entire team of Alex Frolovs rather than have one Jeremy Roenick on my team. Roenick is the absolute antithesis of "heart and soul".

JR??? Isn't that the guy that came to LA, filled his pockets, threw the equipment guys under the bus regarding his skates and then do little else but play the role of Lord of the Dance?

He might have Brown mixed up with Cammalleri. It is easy to make that mistake when you have your head stuck far up your ass.

So the guy likes to dress good? Does that mean he thinks he's a rock star? Frolov's Euro and they like their suites.

You should burn it. I'd wear a Ducks jersey before I wore that.

^^^^^ exactly. Whenever I see the name "Roenick" or see him on tv, I throw up a little in my mouth.

Words cannot express how little I think of him and the way he treated the Kings or-gan-EYE-za-tion and fans.

I can't think of any other L.A. athlete that even approaches the level of douch-bag-ness that JR reached and still holds. Maybe Kevin Brown or Gary Sheffield, but even that's quite a stretch.
