Leino is on the roster and Jon Kalinski, Andreas Nodl and David Laliberte are in reserve.

Give Gagne some time off. No need to stress out. Leino will fill in alright, especially considering the chemistry he has shown with Carter.

I'm more concerned about Carter; not sure how happy I am about him playing with a possible injury.

I'll wait til official word, but losing one will suck. Losing both will be very very bad.

If they are both out:

JVR-Richards-Carcillo
Hartnell-Briere-Giroux
Leino-Powe-Asham
Kalinski-Betts-Lapp

It's Fox29, when have they ever broken any news first, let alone any sports news first, let alone any Flyers news. I'm guess they're just really late (like 2 months) with the Carter broken foot.

Is Fox Sports like Fox News? If they are, I'm not worried.

It looks like it's a broken toe for Gagne, not a foot.

I didn't even know Carter got hit in the foot. I thought his injury came from getting hit in the thigh?

It was definitely above the knee, inner thigh area. I would guess he's going to be fine, just didn't play the rest of the game as a precaution. I don't know how he would have broken a foot on that play.

This thread title is confusing. Carter's likely playing next game, aye?

Updates will be issued by the team after further evaluation. It doesn't seem like their status has been determined yet.

For now, the Flyers are calling it a lower-body injury. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Gagne received an X-ray at the Wachovia Center last night and will be thoroughly checked out today.

"We'll know more [today]," Holmgren said.

Carter, who fractured the navicular bone in his left foot on March 21, which required a screw to be inserted, did not skate another shift after scoring his second goal with 9:28 left. Carter said Chris Pronger's point shot hit him in the shin, but Carter did not play another shift.

Multiple Flyers sources told the Daily News that the prognosis for Gagne and Carter "doesn't look good."

If Carter and/or Gagne cannot play in tomorrow night's Game 5, Ville Leino, Andreas Nodl or David Laliberte remain as options for the Flyers' lineup. *

I would say Kalinski gets in before Nodl or Laliberte

He could have just gotten a stinger on the shin....the fact that he was off ice the rest of the game could be precautionary considering we had a 4-1 lead late in the game...7 minutes left....making sure his foot got additional rest.
I will put a hold on panick button until I hear otherwise.

Yeah, if they're both out, I'll also take Kalinski over Nodl and Laliberte. Kalinski really impressed me in his stint with the team this season. He had some great games...even one game where I remember thinking he was our best player on the ice.

He has great hustle, and can play a checking role well. Has decent hands too.

Agreed. If we lose both Carter and Gagne we're losing defensive skills. I'd rather have a guy who can skate and forecheck to make up for that which Kalinski does from what I recall, whereas Nodl and Laliberte float to a greater extent.

I like these lines. Even if Gags comes back, I'd like to see these lines and switch Asham with Gagne. Then again...if it ain't broke, do't fix it.

Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter will both need surgery to repair fractures of the right foot, each suffered during the Flyers’ Game 4 victory over the Devils.

Carter’s season is essentially over while Gagne has an outside chance to come back if the Flyers make it to the conference finals.

“I expect us to react in a positive way,” said general manager Paul Holmgren, feeling a lot like Custer looking at the Sioux, just over the ridge. “I think injuries happen over the course of the season and in playoffs. It’s happened to a number of teams already in this playoff.

“It gives the opportunity to other players, whoever that may be – whether it’s Claude Giroux or Ville Leino, somebody’s going to get more ice time and put in different roles that perhaps weren’t given before.

“So certainly there’s opportunity for other players. We haven’t used injuries as an excuse the whole year and we certainly aren’t going to start now. I expect our players to play their best and we’ll see what happens.”

Gagne has a fracture in his right big toe. He will have two screws inserted into it surgically on Friday and should be out at least three weeks. Carter is also scheduled for surgery to have a plate inserted into his right metatarsal. He’ll be on crutches for approximately six weeks.

My roomate keeps talking about Cote coming up in place of the injuries. I continue to laugh at him, since he generally is an idiot, but please friends, assure me there's no chance of this.

Not a chance. You can't replace two skilled guys with Leino and a fighter.

David Laliberte will be one of the Phantoms called up to replace Carter/Gagne,
I doubt in that case Cote plays. Probably Leino and Laliberte.

Edit: Or would they also call up Kaminski and keep Leino on the bench? I'm just hoping its not Nodl. He's useless.
