Did you thank him for the too many gingers on the ice penalty in game 2 and the no goal from game 3? Apparently, he was the one that ordered those calls because he wants LA to do well and doesn't want a Canadian team to win the Cup.

Bettman took a shot at Tim Leiweke on the ESPN talk.

I agree with Bettman. ESPN's coverage sucked. It's WAY better on
Versus.

ESPN has studios at LA Live. I am willing to bet that is part of the lobby from the Kings to get back on ESPN.

For the record, I never liked Versus coverage of the playoffs. It sucks, their camera guys suck, announcers suck, pregame sucks. There's not a lot I like about Versus.

That being said, I think it would benefit the Kings to get ESPN a couple games a week. Like TNT and ESPN do..ESPN can get exclusive games of the Western Conference and Versus keeps the Eastern Conference? I don't know how the contract looks or when it expires. What I do know AEG would benefit as well, since as you pointed out ESPN studios is at LA Live. So it would bring more exposure to the Kings and whoever we are playing.

There's no reason (other than exclusivity contracts) that BOTH networks can't show NHL games. They should be on as many networks as possible. The more the merrier.

Versus is definitely growing on me. The one thing that does suck is that while Versus will carry as many games as they can in a night/day for the playoffs, ESPN has ESPN2 and could broadcast the games in full instead of overlapping like it does on Versus. that being said, most people can order Center Ice and not have to deal with that. I however, have Charter which does not offer Center Ice and can not put up a dish at my apartment.

Yeah but they rarely ever did.....

I think people forgot a lot about how bad ESPN was.
Yes Gary Thorne ruled, but everything else sucked.

That may be true but doesn't negate the fact that many people don't know what channel versus is on. Leiweke's point was that ESPN has better exposure, necessary exposure, if the sport ever wants to expand its audience.

Bettman is an idiot is he disagrees with that, better coverage for fans like us or not on Versus.

Yeah lets remember that right now Versus' 'coverage' is pretty much just showing the feeds of local broadcasts or CBC. Lets see how good it is when they start doing their own broadcasts for more games in rounds 2 and 3. That's where the coverage fell apart last year.

Versus is going to grow. Versus is owned by Comcast. Those "local" broadcasts are always Comcast sportsnet. (Theirs)

I don't know I could've sworn in the playoffs they always had games on both channels but it has been so long I really don't remember anymore.

I also like(d) Steve Levy and John Buccigross.

It really appears that the Versus/ESPN debate really annoys Bettman. As far as AEG and Bettman goes, Lieweekly has never wavered from his stance on how important it is for the nhl to be on ESPN, even if it only one game a week.

LOL, if the Kings win tonight this is going to be a major topic of discussion I presume.
