Just read in a thread on the Stanley Cup board, Uncle Lou was so mad with the Devils performance that he threw a jar of jelly against the wall of the Devils' locker room at the Wach.

Vending machine > jar of jelly

Was it last year that we used the "Don't be jellyous" playoff avatars?

Yeah, for whatever reason, when I download gifs they don't animate (I have a mac)...anyone else have this issue/know how to fix?

Or maybe MSE really did put a hex on it

I'm trying to see if that's a metaphor. Why else would there be a jar of jelly in the locker room? Do the players eat peanut butter & jelly before games or something?

The bit I read mentioned something about a 'post game spread', I guess they expend a lot of energy out there and eat something straight after to replenish. In that sense jelly's not a bad thing to consume I suppose, lots of sugars and energy from it would prevent cramping later on for example.

But really I would have thought an energy drink or something would make more sense, I'm just guessing.

Some Devils prefer jelly. Others prefer syrup.

Depending on the method of travel, if teams charter planes then food is catered directly to the aircraft. Commercial travel is obviously different. In instances where bus travel is probable, then food would be sent to the dressing room prior to departure of the arena.

I get the post-game spread.

I'd think NHL teams in a supposed top-4 sport could come up with something better than PB&J

Maybe during intermission - a quick protein fix?

Why is someone else using MSE's avatar? That's confusing to the rest of us at best and sacrilege at worst. I keep seeing the avatar and think it's MSE posting things that don't sound like MSE posts

As for the jelly thing, was Lou trying to one up Lavi? Not. Gonna. Happen.

From what was told to me by a sports nutritionist:
When you eat the protein in combination with a simple carbohydrate (sugar in jelly) right after a hard work out, the protein gets rushed with the sugar right to your muscles to help replenish your glycogen stores. Which helps reduce soreness the next day because the muscle starts healing immediately and the protein spends less time in your stomach being broken down.

I see all of the ju-jitsu and MMA guys pound those things between matches in tournaments (it's bizarre that they all were eating peanut butter and honey on wheat). I could imagine how meticulously managing your diet like that would pay dividends as the play offs wear on your body.

Players (Keith Jones for instance) have told interesting stories about the lack of food in the 5-OT game back in 2000. It's told in a light-hearted manner but the situation could have been ominous.

Yeah, it was after the game I believe, the article said it got on the players suits, which I assume they put back on to leave.
