Laperriere injury

Various tweets about this:

ASF:
Laperriere added he would always wear a visor from this point forward because he "wants to see his kids grow up with both eyes."

A RT from IAA:
LaPerriere re: puck hit to the face "its my last warning.. call me dumb, call me stupid, whatever I block shots, Im gonna wear a shield"

Ian Laperriere announces he will wear a face shield from now on bc he needs to see his kids grow up. He thought he lost his eye tonight.

Frank Seravalli:
Lappy: "I want to see my children grow up with both eyes." He received a ton of stitches over his eyebrow, no broken nose as reported.

Ian Laperriere: Unreal. "I was asking Jimmy [McCrossin, the trainer] if my eye was still there. I couldn't see out of it."

He's still a warrior. I'm sure he'll have the respect for a fellow fighter to take his helmet off when he fights. It looked like he had a golf ball above his right eye when they were interviewing him.

He has to preserve that beautiful face, I fully support this.

How can you break that which has no oblong?

Ridiculous that any of 'em play without a visor, but particularly a guy like him that's out on the PK and goes down the way he does to block shots.

EVERY hockey player should wear a shield in my opinion. Eye injuries are gruesome and almost always end or severely threaten careers. The Flyers and their fans should probably be the first to advocate something like this.

Bernie Parent's career was ended due to an eye injury. Stevens career too. We had Bryan Berard in our training camp two years ago whose career was severely damaged from an eye injury, and then there is Coburn two years ago and Lappy this year who both almost lost an eye to slapshots.

How cool would it be if he packs two helmets, one for the PK and one for when he's not on the PK? Full facemask for the PK, diving head first to block shots.

I honestly wish Lappy could have been here much earlier. He was so integral to this series (as always). I can't imagine how highly respected he would be in the locker room.

He is the toughest player I've ever seen play and the guy he replaced was Brian Glennie, so I've been watching awhile.

About time. Seriously, why do those guys have to get injured first to get it?

Avs fan here, congrats for making it to the 2nd round

I remember when Flyers signed Lappy, there were a lot of Kings and Avs fan here telling you how at the end of the year every single one of you will love the guy. Back then all the Flyers fans seemed to worry about what number he's going to wear, his fighting ability and cap hit.

All we can say, I guess, is told ya.

We were just talking about this tonight.. how you guys "told us so". Really glad you did. He's just awesome.

I was really upset seeing him get hit like that. I was scared he took his eye out. Thank goodness.

Lappy is a warrior, but he really should have thought about wearing a shield the first time his face got mangled. No one will think he's less of a man

Exactly. Like, if the risk of losing an eye was the only way to play hockey, that would be one thing. But visors and full shields are available to every player. It's only a matter of time before they're required, and that time should be as soon as possible.
