I love Yahoo Sports' reasoning:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl,236318

"It's a fairly wide-open award. Here's what our ballot looked like:

1. Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings
2. Mike Green, Washington Capitals
3. Duncan Keith, Chicago Blackhawks
4. Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit Red Wings
5. Chris Pronger, Philadelphia Flyers

There are a couple of numbers that I couldn't get past for Mike Green. First, he was on the ice for more goals-against at even strength (50) than Doughty (45) in fewer games, and Doughty had a better goals-against-per-60-minutes of even-strength hockey (1.95) than Green (2.36) and Keith (2.77).

Keith played against the toughest opponents 5-on-5, with a Quality of Competition rating of 0.081. (Head here for an explanation for how it's computed.) Doughty's (0.027) was higher than Green's (0.005). All stats are via Behind the Net.

In watching Doughty play this season, I felt he was the best all-around defenseman I had seen. Keith impressed me, too, but I see Doughty has having had the stronger (and more consistently strong) season.

Plus, Doughty used to be a fat kid. The Norris Trophy is great for self-esteem. Let Doughnuts have it."

Somebody said he's the youngest finalist since Orr... Anybody know if this is true?

The second youngest since Orr... In both being nominated and possibly winning it. He would be only 3 months shy if he had won it to oust Orr... I mean... Wow. Doughy won, even if he didn't. He is a top 5 defenseman in the game, and he can't even drink yet.

God why is it so hard to hate this kid? I mean he's owning my favourite team and agitating its players, but he's so damn freakin' good. And that swagger. Anyways, congrats to him; he's had a hell of a year.

That being said, I think this is Keith's year for the Norris. After this year though, it's Doughty's to own a la Lidstrom circa 2000s.

You're right, I think Keith is gonna get it this season. Next season, not so sure!

Would have been interesting if the Kings had gotten the 1st pick in 08, with the actual choice between Stamkos and Doughty. That's an impressive top two picks in a draft though, just two years later.

What? You don't think he should have been "nominated"?

Doughty is most definitely the best all around defenseman in the game today. I don't care that he is only 20 years old. He was the best defenseman at the Olympics too. Age shouldn't prevent you from winning the award.

Here's some others that have posted their picks online.

Pierre LeBrun puts Doughty 1st
Norris Voting

James Mirtle put him 3rd

I think that Lombardi would have traded the pick to Tampa and still pick Doughty. If not, he would have picked him #1. He likes to build from the goalie-defense-fowards. He already had Bernier & Kopitar and the Kings didn't have any studs on defense yet.

At this point, it woulnd't have been a mistake either way. Stamkos tied for the "Rocket" Richard award and Doughty could win the Norris.

LoL, that was a typo >.< I was thinking that he shouldn't be discounted because of his age while I typed that and accidentally put in the 'not'. Doughty is a top 5 defenseman in the NHL and he can't even drink yet is what I was going for. Hopefully we just lock him up for the long haul this upcoming contract negotiation.

Congrats Drew!

If this guy doesn't stay a King for life, I'm going to be pissed. 15 year contract Deano! OK, maybe 10...

I'm glad he's been recognized as a finalist. I think Keith will win, but Doughty will have many more(we hope) opportunities.

Congrats from a Canucks fan. Hate seeing the guy on the other team, but even the nastiest Canucks trolls gotta admit Doughty is a rare, sublime talent.

I doubt Doughty wins it this year - it seems like there's a real bias against young guys who in the eyes of old-school journalists "haven't paid their dues". My money is on Keith. But I wouldn't worry too much, Kings fans - you gotta figure that Doughty's name will be carved in stone as a finalist and penciled in as a winner for the next 10 years or so.

I like your username. Did you ever saw Tretiak play? He was a beast in goal and might have been the best icehockey goalie ever.

Love the story on ESPN (Luke Schenn was the one who told him about being in the top3 for Norris ):
