Bobby Ryan turns down offer from ANA

I heard this from a friend who claims he heard Bobby Ryan turned down an offer from the Ducks to explore free agency. He claims he heard this on NHL Live. I only caught NHL Live a couple of times this week and I didn't hear anything about it. Can anyone confirm anything about this??

Could it be possible that he wants to come back home and play for his buddy, Clarke? I would love this. And I'm hoping it's true but usually if it seems too good to be true it's usually not true.

We have no cap space so we could only pay him in Sixers tickets...

This is from a few days ago...

http://ducks.freedomblogging.com/201...-moment/35087/

Quote:
Mark Guy of Toronto-based Newport Sports Management said Monday that he hasn’t resumed any contract talks with the Ducks’ brass in the days after their season ended last week but added that he believes there will be discussions in the coming weeks after the two sides agreed to suspend negotiations earlier in the season.

“I would expect that we will at some point in time,” Guy said of any scheduled talks. “But we haven’t yet. And that’s not abnormal with the season just ending.

“We have quite a few guys up this summer and we haven’t really started on any of them yet because teams are just kind of going through the whole process of evaluating themlseves and where they fit cap-wise for next year.

“I would expect that we’d get into some discussions as we we had into the later part of May and June. But nothing scheduled for right now.”

The Ducks know that Ryan, a restricted free agent as of July 1, will be getting a big-money deal but they decided to suspend negotiations until after the season partly to see if the big winger could duplicate his breakout rookie campaign when he had 31 goals and 57 points in being a Calder Trophy finalist.

Though there were some concerns about his willingness to work in the tough areas around the net, Ryan shook off a slow start to 2009-10 to lead the Ducks with 35 goals and rank third on the team with 64 points.

Ryan’s goal total tied him for 10th in the NHL with Vancouver’s Alex Burrows. The fact that he’s still 23 and has 71 goals over the equivalent of two full seasons certainly jacked up his asking price, which figures to settle around $5 million per season. Maybe more.

One thing to consider: Guy negotiated Corey Perry’s five-year deal that carries an average salary of $5.325 million in the summer of 2008 after Perry posted 29 goals and 54 points in 2007-08. Perry, who was also 23 at the time he signed his contract, had 59 goals in 208 NHL games at that point.

And there’s the specter of an offer sheet thrown out by another team that Ryan himself raised when he spoke about it following the team’s exit meetings.

They don't have the draft picks either to give him an offer sheet:

(This is old info, but just to look at the levels of compensation)

http://www.nhlscap.com/offer_sheets.htm
Quote:
-- WHAT IS THE COMPENSATION REQUIRED FOR SIGNING A RFA TO AN OFFER SHEET?
For 2008-09, the compensation due for signing a RFA to an Offer Sheet is:

Amount

Compensation Due

$863,156 or less
None

$863,156 - $1,307,812
3rd round pick

$1,307,812 - $2,615,625
2nd round pick

$2,615,623 - $3,923,437
1st and 3rd round pick

$3,923,437 - $5,231,249
1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick

$5,231,249 - $6,539,062
Two 1st's, one 2nd, one 3rd round pick

$6,539,062 or more
Four 1st round picks
They would have to get their 2011 2nd round pick back from the Coyotes (it must be their own, not trade for someone else's), AND re-work the conditions on the Pronger trade with Anaheim -- we owe them a 3rd next year if we win the Cup next year (and do not this year).

Ryan is a dream. We don't have the assets to acquire him, and the only salaries we can realistically give up are Gagne, Briere, Hartnell, and Carle.

They'd want any deal to start with Giroux or JVR probably.

I wouldn't be okay with giving up Giroux+significant or JVR+significant as well as being force to move someone for cap space.

It's nearly impossible to pull.

Gagne/Hartnell + Coburn (they need defense) + 2011 1st?

Not likely.

I'm fine with keeping Giroux and JVR before trading for Ryan. The numbers are nice, but I'm not convinced of the hype he gets, some of which mentioned in that piece.

Rumor has it that Bobby Ryan will be playing for Team Mission at NARCh this summer.

I'd be willing to send Anaheim Coburn and Hartnell and a pick for the rights to Ryan.

Anaheim would be getting a physical forward who is still youngish in Hartnell, and a somewhat phsyical blueliner in Coburn.

Moving Hartnell helps give us the space to re-sign Ryan for $5+.

Of course, this is mearly a fantasy. Highly unlikely.

I don't know how I would feel about moving Claude or JVR though. That's a whole different animal.

Hopefully someday Ryan decides he wants to put on the Flyer orange. Maybe when he is a UFA down the road.

Gagne-Richards-Ryan
JVR-Carter-Briere
Leino-Giroux-FA
Carcillo-Betts-Lappy

Nice lineup, still a fantasy, but nice.

We could always just sign him to one of those deals the sends four firsts the other way

We don't have a real chance at adding anyone of his caliber to the team until after Briere, Kimmo, or Gags are off the books.

Where are you getting the extra 4+ million dollars to fit him in?

However, they could go the Toronto route and do a sign and trade via the threat of an offer sheet.

Burke retained his 3rd as the deal was 2 firsts and a 2nd.

I wouldn't trade any of our youth to get him here. The only way he comes to Philly is as an UFA in a few years. Hopefully he signs a short deal in Anaheim and the Flyers are clear of some of their less desirable contracts at that point.

They could always claim that Hartnell is "physically unable to play" being that he is a frickin retard.

Right, that only one thing they had to do, and it was still only moving around draft picks.

The Flyers don't have that luxury.

If we can somehow trade Briere sure.

In order to do that we need to trade Briere for 1st round pick and trade our 1st round pick in 2011. Or Harttnell plus our 1st round pick in 2011. Kessel type of trade, and give him Kessel type of contract.

Basically, impossible?

Giroux + Carle for Ryan (rights) + Chipchura/Carter

Love Giroux but he is a luxury as a 3rd line center.

Gagne - Richards - Ryan
JVR - Carter - Briere
Hartnell -Chip/Carter - Powe
Carcillo - Betts - Lappy

move Hartnell for a Dman.

Giroux is not a real center, that's why.

Giroux obviously knows how to step his game up when it counts, I don't know why anyone would possibly consider an expendable "luxury." These are the guys you build your team around.
