Comrie

Just wanted to know how his contract situation is going. Is he far from signing?

I'd say he is as far as u can get without actually going on record and saying u won't sign or requesting a trade. If and when he does sign I am sure it will only be so Lowe can have an easier time trading him.

I think that depends on whether you believe the Sun or the Journal.

Matheson in the Journal seems to think they're not so far apart, Brownlee from the Sun seems to think Comrie is long gone.

Is that about right guys? I've only seen one short blurb from Matheson.

He had a big article on the front page of the sports a while back, indicating that he believed this trade talk was overblown, and that Comrie would eventually sign for somewhere between $1.6-2 million dollars. But who really knows what's goin on? I'm more inclined to believe Matheson's perspective, based on calmness and history, and the fact that he only seems to write a big article from time-to-time on important things, but that's just me.

I think Comrie's corner is arguing that it's ridiculous for him to make a massive pay cut after scoring 60 goals in 2/2 seasons. He's among the top players from his draft year, and worked like a dog to get in top shape for this season. For them, it's a matter of pride.

For the Oilers, it's a matter of survival. I think Comrie is gone by Saturday.

If Matheson was right and they are squabbling around the $1.6-2M range then I think that's fair for a 1st line center, when you look around the league it's peanuts. Ethan made that last season on the third line, and it's only $500K more than BG on the 4th.

If Comrie wants $4M again at his age then I think he'll be gone by Friday night at 8 o'clock. :p

There was also an article mentioning that they're not asking for 3M. Where this 3M figure came from I have no idea.

Matheson's column is the only reliable source that I've seen venture forth with a number of any sort, but speculation about him wanting roughly what he earned last season is rampant everywhere else.

We are like mushrooms. We are kept in the dark, and being fed a bunch of b-s.

im not saying this to argue with anyone, but somebody should clean up and merge all these Comrie threads.

You dont have to start a new thread every time a hairbrained comrie trade scheme comes to mind (this isnt aimed at anyone in particular)

Most Oiler fans believe Comrie is far from signing. Rumor has it that if Comrie DOES happen to re-sign and play ever again for the Oilers, lowetide will dance in the nude on top of the Edmonton Colliseum.

I don't know if you read the Journal, but Barnes is doing a pool on Comrie now. It runs like a baby pool, where you have to pick a date, resigning or team he's traded to, and amount or who we get in return. Since every thread seems to turn into this anyway, maybe some of us should enter.

Whatever the outcome (I'm still hoping he signs), I hope it's done by the start of the season...They could use his offense or his "replacement's offense in the lineup...

Speaking of offense, when is D-vo back...After reading some of the assessments on this board, it seems he can't afford to miss out on preseason games...That being said, family or whatever emergency he had is more important...
