If there was a way to hold onto this years 1st I would move the first 3 picks from next year and one of the young defensemen like Girardi, Sanguinetti or McDonagh for Ryan. We are talking about a very young perennial 35-40 goal power forward with no history of injuries. This kid is the real deal.

Also, we have to realize that with another year of growth and the addition of Ryan to the Rangers to form some more depth scoring the Rangers most likely won't have a top-5 pick like the Leafs did this year.

Yeah, but it could possibly mean the ability to sign one of the UFA d-men like Martin or Michalek as Ryan won't make as much as Kovalchuk.

True...I guess to clarify what I meant was, of Girardi/Sanguinetti/McDonagh, McDonagh would be the one I'd be the most reluctant to lose. We already know what Girardi is, and Sanguinetti I'm not so sure about anymore.
McDonagh I think has the most potential to this team in the future...Deal-breaker? I don't think so...if that's what it came down to.
Bobby Ryan would be worth giving up those draft picks for. He is a 23 year old kid that you can build your team around for the next 10 years. He plays the right wing and that is a position the rangers are thin in on the team and in there system excluding Gaborik.
I'd say pick two out of the 3 of those players you mentioned and try to squeeze philly's first out of them if possible as well

Yea, I think he'd be perfect on this team. I proposed earlier Callahan, Girardi, and a move down from 10th to the Philly pick. I'm not sure that would work though. What about building a package around Callahan and Girardi? What else would it take?

The first problem is finding a way to dump Brashear, but even if we can, that's only 1.4 mil. Jokinen has to be replaced, and most of what's left from his salary will go to re-signing Staal. Redden and Girardi have to be replaced.
Waiving Redden doesn't get us even close to enough cap space to sign both Kovy and Ryan.
I would think that if Anaheim couldn't resign him they would look to trade his RFA rights.
