I would give up a lot for Ryan. If there was a way to hold onto this years 1st I would move the first 3 picks from next year and one of the young defensemen like Girardi, Sanguinetti or McDonagh for Ryan. We are talking about a very young perennial 35-40 goal power forward with no history of injuries. This kid is the real deal.
If we're using the Kessel deal as a point of comparison (well I am) Toronto gave up 2 1sts and a 2nd
3 picks and a player? Seems sort of steep, but I think I'd do it. If it's not McDonagh (I'm personally not too sour on his decision to finish his college career) I say do it!
Of course, to the get Kovalchuk now people, a slew of pick and non roster players for Kessel would completely eliminate that chance, just so we're clear.

I'm not sour on McDonagh, but we have to understand that they may be more interested in one than another and I for one, wouldnt make McDonagh or Sanguinetti or Girardi a deal-breaker.
Also, we have to realize that with another year of growth and the addition of Ryan to the Rangers to form some more depth scoring the Rangers most likely won't have a top-5 pick like the Leafs did this year.

Yeah, but it could possibly mean the ability to sign one of the UFA d-men like Martin or Michalek as Ryan won't make as much as Kovalchuk.

True...I guess to clarify what I meant was, of Girardi/Sanguinetti/McDonagh, McDonagh would be the one I'd be the most reluctant to lose. We already know what Girardi is, and Sanguinetti I'm not so sure about anymore.
McDonagh I think has the most potential to this team in the future...Deal-breaker? I don't think so...if that's what it came down to.
Bobby Ryan would be worth giving up those draft picks for. He is a 23 year old kid that you can build your team around for the next 10 years. He plays the right wing and that is a position the rangers are thin in on the team and in there system excluding Gaborik.
I'd say pick two out of the 3 of those players you mentioned and try to squeeze philly's first out of them if possible as well
For me I would be careful giving 2 of those 3 as without, say, McDonagh + Girardi, that leaves MDZ, Staal, Gilroy and Sanguinetti as this teams young defense for the foreseeable future. The rest of the depth in the Rangers system is highly unlikely to make the NHL with an outside chance to Valentenko, Kundratek and Sauer(mainly as bottom-pairing d-men).
Organizations have to be careful to deal from a position of strength without immediately making it a position of weakness, for me, moving 2 of those 3 does that.

ok so then for me, id say pick one of those 3 and then add grachev so:
Yea, I think he'd be perfect on this team. I proposed earlier Callahan, Girardi, and a move down from 10th to the Philly pick. I'm not sure that would work though. What about building a package around Callahan and Girardi? What else would it take?
On a side note, would you guys do Rozsival for Boyes?
Chad Johnson
Daniel Girardi
Grachev
11' 2nd round Pick
for Ryan + 11' 4th.
The first problem is finding a way to dump Brashear, but even if we can, that's only 1.4 mil. Jokinen has to be replaced, and most of what's left from his salary will go to re-signing Staal. Redden and Girardi have to be replaced.
Waiving Redden doesn't get us even close to enough cap space to sign both Kovy and Ryan.
I would think that if Anaheim couldn't resign him they would look to trade his RFA rights.
This, bobby is also a known Ranger fan. Either way, trading for bobbies rights would be a great move for this team depending what we can shed. And when ni say shed, it's not that we are dumping crap for him, but they are dealing from a slight position of weakness.

Make sure of that, I swore it was bobby Ryan considering he grew up in NJ... Either that or im having a huge brain fart right now.
I remember a pre game interview with him when the ducks played at the garden in 08-09, where he was asked if he was a devils or rangers fan growing up and he said "actually I was a flyers fan"

A power forward who can put in 35 goals at age 23...who wouldn't want him?
What makes you think he will score 35+ goals every season now? I think there is a very good chance he can score around that much if healthy, but the sample size to refer to is quite small.
I would give up our 2011 first, any one of Grachev, Kreider, Sanguinetti, McDonagh, and possibly Stepan for him, and Girardi to offset a little bit of the salary.

No to Staal or Michael Del Zotto though
I dont think anyone is advocating giving up Staal or Del Zotto
