Volchenkov

Anyone interested in attempting to bring on Anton Volchenkov? He is seeking $5 mil per year so obviously substantial salary would need to be cleared....do we even need him?

Would you rather spend the cash on forwards?

Not at the price it will take to acquire him. In a perfect world I'd like to see him on the Flyers, but a defensive dman is not worth $5M. Someone else can make that mistake.

I'd rather spend that kind of cash on a goalie.

So, what are the odds the Rangers make a run after Anton. And as others have pointed out, 5 million bones is too much money for a defensive defenseman, even one who is as good as Anton is.

Rangers probably need to invest whatever they can in some offense, which he brings none of. The Devs are a team that should look into him, however.

The Devils need a more mobile, puck-moving defensive unit, don't they?

I'm not sure how Volchenkov helps them.

I think he'd be a better fit in Pittsburgh or Washington.

Eh, they need an impact player back there. Colin White is a shell of his former self, and they've really missed Stevens' presence on the blue line.

Washington should absolutely look at him, but if they're looking to up their payroll, I think going after Vokoun would be a wiser play for them and their Cup chase.

Pitt makes some sense if they choose not to re-sign Gonchar.

If the Rangers somehow find a boatload of cap space I'd imagine they'd be chasing down Kovalchuk.

Yeah, the Devils really need a puck-moving defenseman.

Would you seriously pay A-train $5 to play on the 3rd pairing?

No way man.

Pronger-Volchenkov
Timonen-Coburn
Parent-Bartulis

That's epic. Absolutely EPIC.

Move Carle for capspace. Move Hartnell for capspace.

Robin Regyer(sp) only has a 4mm cap hit and woud be a nice fit. Not sure what would have to give up as not sure they would want carle +.

Cobrun + hartnell for Robin +? Just a thought.

Just curious if anyoen knows how has Danny Markov looked in russia the last few years? Wonder if he would want to come back to the nhl or if he is even good enough(cant imagine as a bottom pairing guy he wouldnt be). Probably makes to much over there thought.

Well, other than having just beaten up a parking attendant in Russia (while heavily intoxicated), Markov is doing great.

I believe his team just folded (Dynamo Moscow I believe).

He was the captain also. I bet he would make more over there.

If we had the space, both in terms of cap space and d-men space, then I would love to have him. As it is, we don't have either so, no.

He'd still get his 20 minutes a game

I think I would put Volchenkov with Timonen actually.

I thought of that also, but decided Coburn pinches too much and that Timonen would probably handle him better. I figure he could handle Pronger's high icetime better.

However, it depends. If Volchenkov is better in front of the net, Timonen-Volchenkov could be an amazing pair with Pronger training Coburn 1 on 1.

Coburn-Pronger
ATrain-Timonen
who cares, they wont even play (Parent-Bartulis)

EDIT: If we go far into the playoffs this season, it will be because of Boosh and our defense, not our offense.

We already have 2 great defensemen, and I am not worried about the defensemen under them. Any free space should be used for goaltending and then for forwards.
