No sense adding a 36 year old player on the decline. We have a good core of young veterans on the team and have some decent prospects.

I don't think a PP point shot is worth 5M a year, especially when Subban is right around the corner. Plus Weber is another option, heck even Carle was progressing nicely before his injury this season.

It's not an albatross of a contract, but I do believe there options out there we should look into before Rolston.
Fair enough, if we can rid ourselves of Hamrlik without taking on salary no doubt I'm all over that.

How about Hammer and Weber for Fraser and Clarkson? We would get some toughness clear up space with Hammer gone and Weber would be a good acquisition for Jersey to make it viable.

I'd love to see Clarkson with the Habs.

WHY in the world would you trade Price for Zajac when Plekanec this year has finally emerged both in the regular season and the playoffs?

Andrei-Plek-Cam
Pouliot-Gomez-Gionta
Pyatt-Rolston-Clarkson
Moen-Metro/Moore-White

I would love this on our end.
So you want to trade Carey Price, the #5 overall pick for two 3rd line players, one of which is so old he'll have to retire in a few years? AND he has a salary of $5m for 2 years? Where do people come up with this crap.

Clarkson sure, but not alone for Price and definitely not with Rolston lmao

Please look at top-end talent. Not borderline.

That is f'in intriguing to be very honest. They get a franchise goalie, we get a franchise forward but they have to put up with $5.5m for one season and then free up cap space.

Nothing personal against Jersey, but only way they get Price is if they grossly overpay. Price has high end skill and put him with a tudor like Brodeur playing in Jersey's system you have the Vezina winner 10 of the next 15 years. Look how good Clemmenson looked playing in Jersey's system.
Price wouldn't even get you 1/3 of Parise. So don't worry ace, it ain't happening. Parise's value is so far and above what Price is worth, it's not even worth hypothetically talking about it.

Price isn't in the trade buddy, maybe some people should learn how to read before they talk.

Sorry dude, saw it in the flow of the Price conversation. I still don't think Jersey gives up Clarkson for Hamrlik and Lapierre though. Not a chance.

Probably not, but they need D-men and complain about natural centers so you assume getting both things with more cap flexibility(hamrlik has 1 year left, rolston has 2) they might bite.

I see all your proposals involve Halak..

I can see some people wanting to trade Price, but being that Halak seems to have emerged as a legitimate #1. Why do you want to trade him? Just because Price has untapped potential to be better? It's not tapped yet, and it may never be.

If anything both need to be retained next season to make a final decision. I find Price seriously over rated on HF.

Can you see further then your nose? Or do you only remember 5 months back
I guess you completly forget Price's first year and a half ?

Quit talking like Price has never done anything and Halak has been a legit #1 since his first game.

Since then he's been streaky but hasn't been horrible.
Serious?

I can name off tones of goalies who had fantastic seasons only to fall into mediocrity never to be seen again. LOL.

One season doesn't make a career, and Halak's year this year was bigger and better then Price's rookie year. I am not willing to annoit Price anything until he proves he is better then Halak, which frankly over the past 2 years he's been unable to do. You can't trade either one at this point unless the return is mind blowing.

Price lovers are more sensitive then a 12 year old girl at Justin Bieber concert.

Does Halak fall into the one year wonders too? Or for him it doesn't count?

Halak's best season and Price best season are similar.... Except one was 20 the other is 24

.920 2.56

.924 2.40

One has crumbled in the playoffs twice, the other one hasn't yet. What's your point?

You can go back and fourth all day with this crap. I guess Price supporters can't read either.

"You can't trade either one at this point unless the return is mind blowing."

Me, two posts up, the post you quoted.

What I do find mind blowing, is the Price supporters throwing Halak to the curb because Price is the "man of the future".... and yet he hasn't been for the better part of 2 years now? He needs to regain his crease before we consider trading Halak.

Dallas, Tampa, and Philly are the only ones I'd even consider. The others are just nasty imo. I don't find any of those other players appealing at all. Penner? Nasty.

*No jinx* Halak has yet to win a series.

Price played bad vs Philly. But last year he's the last player we should blame. Even Tim Thomas said he wasn't to blame for any goals and that Boston just dominated Montreal.

Washington has bombarded Halak and he's done pretty well.

Just saying is all..

I just don't agree at all with trading either goalie unless it's for a serious improvement at another position within the organization. It's got to be big too.

Same here but I don't want to go into next season with two goalie's. I want Gauthier to make a choice and stick with it.

I don't get why people absolutely want to get rid of the k brothers. I think they could be the perfect third line for the habs.

just imagine we trade Hamrlik and Price for Elias and New Jersey's first or second.

Elias Gomez Gionta
Cammaleri Plekanec Pouliot
AK (Desharnais/Maxwell/Lapierre/Engvist/A good center that could be ready but I prefer Desharnais) SK
Moen Lapierre White

Markov O'byrne
Spacek Subban
Gorges Gill

Halak
Price

I think that's a neat line up.

Not enough grit or size IMO. It's overrated a bit, but you can't complete ignore it either.

I'm not going to get into the "who has the biggest dick" contest about the goalies. I leave that for the circular discussion professionals on this board.

unless you feel that Spacek has a big time negative value, this deal is heavily favoring St-Louis.

I like Perron, a lot, but he's another smallish player that doesn't fit our needs any better than A.Kost (aside from being younger/cheaper), Crombeen is a decent asset, but far from a proven commodity, Allen is no more proven than any of the prospects you listed on our side.

can't see how this makes us better from an asset pov or from a roster pov.

Make it Weber or Carle and I like this deal. Clowe fits a big time need, would look great next to Gomez/Gionta (freeing up Pouliot to centre the 3rd line).
Demers is a nice young Dman who would compliment the young talent we already have (Subban, Gorges, O'Byrne + Demers = a very solid and cheap nucleus moving forward... factor in Markov/Gill, and it's a very good defense corp right now).

Halak fits a big need for the Sharks, but only if they let go of Nabokov for cap reasons... which would make taking Hamrlik back a non-starter i think.

Swap it to Spacek and I think it makes more sense for the sharks.

solid deal.

I really Like Brouwer, A LOT... even more of a great fit with gionta/gomez than Clowe would be imo...
Beach is a prospect I like as well, a bit brash but Boucher would fix that quickly, giving us the kind of player we need/lack up front in 2-3 years.

S.Kost will eventually be a very good NHLer... maybe reuniting with Kane helps him turn the corner.
Halak would seemingly solve the Hawks goaltending issues.

If they lose to the nucks and Niemi struggles, I see them jumping at this deal, but if Niemi plays well and they make the conference or cup finals, i doubt they trade any assets away to address goaltending

I'd do this, but with the way howard has played this year, and with Lidstrom/Rafalski getting near the end, I don't see the Wings ever considering this.

  • James van Riemsdyk
tough one, I like the thought of JVR, but he hasn't shown enough to make me comfortable with the potential of solving Philly's goaltending need for years to come...
but it would be hard to turn down.

Malone would be another nice fit in our top 6, and the 6th overall would be great to have.
Not sure if TB would be willing to take on 3 contracts while giving up a potential strong young player who will/could be a cheap roster asset for the next few seasons.
I'd do it, not so sure about TB.

Wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole...
Penner is one bad season away from being back to the vastly overpaid/underperforming player he was going into this season... while he was pretty solid this year, impossible to know if he finally "gets it" or if he'll revert back to his mediocre work habits this offseason...
Gilbert is overpaid and not really a need with Markov/Subban/Spacek already here. As bad as Hamrlik has been down the stretch, he was better overall this year than Gilbert was.
Jaques and Stortini are dime a dozen 4th liners.

Bad overpayment from our side even if we do get rid of the Laraque buy-out.

only if you consider Hamlik a pure salary dump...
imo Halak+Kost =/> Benn/Neal + Chiasson + 2nd.

Swap Chiasson for Niskanen and I'd like it a lot more.
