Kovalchuk (FA signing at 8 mil/year)– Kopitar – Brown (top scoring line)
Smyth – Schenn - Simmonds (great two-way scoring line)
Richardson – Handzus – Williams (grind line with speed/shooting ability)
Clune – Lewis - Parse/Moller (up and coming grind line with scoring potential)
Loktionov/Kozun/Clifford (possible call-ups)
Quick/Bernier (starts about evenly split)
Frolov, Modin, Halpern, Jones & O'Donnell all gone. Kovalchuk signed at 8 mil/ year for 5-6 years. Stoll traded for draft pick(s). We have 4 rookies in the lineup and 5 when Bernier starts. Drew Doughty gets an A on his jersey along with Kopi and Greene, Brown remains captain. This is how I predict 2010's lineup.
2010 #1 Draft Pick- John McFarland C/LW - Great 2 way game with alot of leadership ability. Scores in the clutch and has experience in big games. All things i think the Kings should be interested in.
I don't like Moller on the 4th line, I feel like he is being wasted down there but since the top 6 is packed I think he could spend another season in Manchester. I would love to see Stoll traded but don't think that happnes, and if Schenn does make the team I see him on a line with Zus to mentor him(like he mentored Simmonds).
On D I want Voynov making the team as well, Teubert isn't ready though and need atleast a year in the minors. I see us signing a D-man and having either Voynov or Hickey in the lineup. There's also OD, I think he retires or comes back as the 7th but knowing TM he would put OD in the top 4.
Teubert isnt close to being NHL ready. Although I do agree Voynov is ready. He is built like a bull.
I dont know how ready Schenn, Clifford, Lewis or Lokionov are either.
I personally think that DL is going to drop Williams via trade or waiving him.
I think Teubert isn't NHL ready but his body is...he will bring size to our defense and playing with Greene mentoring him, he will learn quick. It has been 2 full seasons since we drafted him, bout time to give him a shot.
Also, I think we move either Stoll or Williams, but Stoll will get us more offers so he should be the one traded. I think replacing Halpern, O'Donnell, Modin, Frolov, Jones and Ivanans isn't so bad...
But he is not a #2 Center, and that's what this team is lacking.
Really? I am thinking more they're lacking 1 true sniper winger and 1 top flight puck-moving defenseman. Eliminating Stoll, who's arguably the team's best faceoff man, means we suffer a reduction in puck posession time. And puck posession's kinda important.
Oh, we're also lacking a Stanley Cup.
The reality is most people were not complaining much about Stoll until that nightmare run Kompon put him on playing the point on the first power play unit. That was NOT using him correctly.
I know everyone loves Zus more than Stoll, but you have to consider the future. How many years does Zus have of being able to match up with Thornton, Getzlaf and such? How about Duchene and soon to be Seguin? Zus is awesome, and I want him to resign (for less money), but he isn't a long-term, core solution, the way Stoll is likely viewed by management.
Just for argument's sake, let's take a look at this team offensive capabilities as it stands.
Simmonds: 20+(maybe 30 if given PP Time)
Handzus: 20+(Contract year, no reason he cant replicate this season)
Richardson: 20+(Will play on top 9 next year)
Doughty: 20+(If he is say he plans to improve his shot, im inclined to believe him)
7 20 Goal scorers as it stands. You add 1 of Marleau, Kovalchuk, Sharp or Versteeg and that's pretty crazy scoring depth.
Hahahahahahaha if you guys think Smyth is going to score 20 goals again. He's pretty much done, did you see how much his game declines in the playoffs, probably the biggest playoff disappointment after Quick.. Actually Quick played well until game 5 and 6
I think he will make it. Given that O'Donnell & Jones will be out, he will make that extra push to make it IMO. He has great size (6'4 220) and will add much needed toughness to our D on the penalty kill. Same was said about Kopitar when he first made the team, no one gave him a chance, I'm thinkin Teubert does the same and cracks the last spot on defense. Also, we had Jones on our D, won't be hard for Teubert to replace that...
4 rookies on the opening day roster... Schenn, Lewis, Voynov and Teubert. Hickey, Drewiskie, Loktionov & Moller will stay in Manchester as possible call-ups in case of injury or scratches. I'm high on Teubert and it's been 2 years since he was drafted top 15, let him play!
Q: You said that, if in the course of 2 or 3 years, if things don't work out, you'll return home. Is this still a reality?
A: It's still possible. The contract is not going anywhere, it is signed for 3 years. Having first left, I wanted to play in the NHL right away. Then I gave myself 2 years for the AHL where I am still developing my game. If I don't get called up in the coming season, then all options are open, I am not dismissing anything.
Q: Would you agree to a trade to another team?
A: The issue has already been raised. The Kings needed an experienced veteran, Colorado offered such a player but insisted on me in return. As it turned out, Los Angeles refused. This fact makes me very happy and helps to convince me that they are depending on me.
Kovalchuk - Kopitar - Williams
Smyth - Plekanec - Brown
Richardson - Handzus - Simmonds
Parse - Lewis - Westgarth/Clune
Scuderi - Doughty
Johnson - Hamhuis/Volchenkov
Voinov - Greene
Reason why we won't get Hamhuis/Volchenkov or a guy like Plekanec is money... If we give Kovalchuk 8 mil/ year which we need since we don't have one sniper on this team, we will have barely enough money to give Doughty, JMFJ, Simmonds and Moller their raises for the next couple years. Any open spot should be filled in by our talented prospects, which will be cheaper.
Seeing Voynov in the NHL.
Seeing Bernie in the NHL.
Seeing Moller in the NHL full time (somewhere).
Seeing Westy give us what Ivy couldn't in the NHL.
Seeing Schenn on the Monarchs (for awhile at least).
Seeing us send out a hack to throw his knee at Samuelson.
Seeing Simmonds become an actual full time top 6 forward.
Seeing us make it past the first freakin round of the playoffs.
