Hopefully 44DD can rebound next year but he'll probably end up sharing time with Voinov/Hickey/FA signing. IMO, we need another big body on defense like Sutton. We're losing OD and we need someone who can replace him.

I don't see DL pooring money into a top 4 d-man if its going to cost more then 2.0M which most likely it will. With Scuderi and Greene locked up for a few more years and Dought/JJ due contract massive contract extensions, I think DL will rely on Hickey, Voinov, Trebuert, Drewiski to step up and claim 3 out of the 7 positions. If they can't handle it, he can always trade for someone at the deadline.

Doughty-Scuderi
Johnson-Hickey
Greene-Voinov
Drewiski

Kovalchuk Kopitar Williams (JW has to stay healthy but I love the RW depth)
Smyth Schenn - Simmonds (Stoll can be replaced, don't forget Lokitnov)
Richardson Handzus Brown (Richardson will be locked up IMO.)
Westgarth Lewis - Moller (Just an example)
Harrold - Clune (Cheap and Understand their roll)

Bernier (He's our starter after camp IMO)
Quick

As you see Stoll, Frolov, Modin, O'Donnell, Jones Halpern, and Ersberg are all gone:

Stoll - CAP reasons/Prospects coming up
Frolov - CAP reasons/Possible return if Kovalchuk or Marleau are not signed.
Modin - CAP reasons/Possible return with discount but doubtful
O'Donnell - Age/CAP Reasons
Halpern - CAP Reasons, too high for a 4th liner
Ersberg - Bernier and Quick.
Jones - You know why.

We would be over the CAP with this line-up but not by much. I think we would have the bonus cushion with Schenn...I'll let DL figure that part out.

GO GET KOVALCHUK DL!!!!!!

That interview is a lot more interesting if you read it with a Russian accent.

I don't know why but I got a pretty good laugh out of that.

I basically ignored the rest of your ramblings though.

The bottom line is, we have a great core of dmen as is, and although, it would be nice to add another big name (AV and Hamhuis), fiscally, it's just not a very good idea.

Add someone like Sutton and bring up either Hickey or Voinov and there's our top 6.
Divine what you know of Terry Murray and then ask yourself why Johnson and Greene barely played together this year. Then ask yourself if there is any reason to believe that would change next year.

Not sure if they are, but interestingly, both were drafted in 2000 and both wear #24. I really wanted Volchenkov to be drafted by the Kings that year.

You say that but one defensman can make a huge difference as we saw in this series. The Kings have Jack and Drew as Dmen who can adequately move the puck. Scuderi, Greene, and O'D all try but they are defensive guys and it is unfair to expect too much out of them.

I don't know about you but it is extremely painful to watch Matt Greene try to skate the puck out of trouble sometimes or even handle the puck in pressure situations. Adding a guy like Hamhuis would strengthen the Kings in so many ways. The guy brings offense, can move the puck, is above average in his own end and isn't afraid to drop the gloves. This would also increase team speed and possibly lead to more ES scoring because of cleaner breakouts and more mobility from the point.

Doughty-Scuderi
Hamhuis-Johnson
O'Donnell-Greene

Another thing about Hamhuis..you know he is well coached under Trotz and is probably an underrated part of that teams success. The guy is disciplined and just seems like a character guy that Lombardi would love.

What do you guys think about Plekanec as a #2 behind Kopitar?

Adding another center can allow Lombardi to trade Stoll and add a top 4 defensman. Doing this would probably cost less than just signing Kovalchuk.

Who in their right mind would not want a Hamhuis or AV???

It isn't about what I want but rather what's fiscally responsible.

Be happy we have JJ and DD. Most of the nhl would kill for these two and they're ours.

Sutton, imo is reasonably priced.
