I'd rather them miss it. Semin is playing terrible now and Ovechkin is non-existent. I hope they bring some fresh blood to this team.

I'd take Varlamov. If Ovechkin doesn't go I don't think anyone will be too upset with him. It's his absolute right to have a break from hockey after such a disappointing year. If he wants to play though, he should only be welcomed with open arms.

You are right, Semin is playing very badly.

But Ovechkin has 5 goals and 10 points in the 7 playoff games, which is pretty good.

Ovechkin-Fedorov-Radulov anyone?

I agree with this. Varlamov was OK in the playoffs, good not great, but for the WC his level will be good enough.

I would welcome Varlamov mostly and Ovechkin but please no, keep Semin away. I would rather Russia just bring in somebody young to get time then have Semin waste a spot.

I kind of have a feeling Ovechkin may turn down the WC, hopefully Varlamov dosnt though.

You think Semin would "waste a spot"?

I agree that he was abysmal in the playoffs (1 point, I mean come on...). But in 2008 he led Team Russia with 13 points in the WC.

Also, the WC is not played at nearly as high a skill level as the NHL playoffs, so Semin should be fine.

Still, I wonder if Radulov has not surpassed him on our list of RWs, as a result.

Both are head and shoulders above Afinogenov, that much is for sure.

All three are coming. Don't know if it's good or not. Ovechkin and Semin played a lot of hockey in the last 3 years, why not take a break.

I mean waste in the term of he just played a very long season, he was also apart of the Olympic roster and finished the play-offs very poor. Why not just give him a rest and Russia bring younger players or players who were not in the Olympics?

How about let Lisin, Anisimov, Filatov or Shirokov go instead?

It is just my opinion but if I was in charge I would just give his spot to a younger guy.

What is your source?

Great news if true (how could you not be ecstatic about the best player in the world coming)?
