It's like watching your first born finally spread his wings and leave the family nest. You really don't want to see them go but you put on a brave face and tell them that things will work out fine. It's time to live your own life now but remember, we won't be turning your bedroom in to a Jaquzzi room any time soon, so if things ever get rocky and you need to come home, we will welcome you with open arms and you will always your family to turn to.

Good luck Stevie, you have made us so proud for so long, we know you will be successful in anything you do!!!

No, no, no. Bad. DISLIKE.

I don't like your thinking- he should just stay IN THE NEST.

I don't mind him going to TB. I like Stamkos and St.Louis. He probably will do good there.

I wish he would just stay in the wings orginization but that's me being greedy. My only concern would be seeing him go somewhere else and having another orginization ruin his reputaion or the way the fans look at him because they are a poorly ran franchise. (I'm not specificly talking about TB as I don't know alot about how the ownership is)

I just wouldn't want anyhing to change the way he is viewed in the hockey world.

I'm sure he will do great in whatever he chooses he is Stevie after all.

Epic plan, Stevie should trade Stamkos, Hedman, Vinny L, and St. Louis to the redwings for peanuts and quit.

No one would see it coming

Does anyone have a worse view of Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux or any of the other hockey giants who went into front office or coaching jobs after they retired?
Nope.
At least not if they are being fair. And who cares about what the others think.

Yes. Gretzky was a travesty as a coach. I mean, I dont blame him. How the hell could a player like Gretzky explain the game of hockey to anyone?

He doesnt see the game like a normal human being and "go out there and do what I did" isnt a coachable tactic (not that that is what he did).

Does what he did as a coach in anyway tarnish his legacy?

HELL NO.

Nothin' against Stevie but, I'd take a Holland extension over Yzerman ALL DAY LONG. I love the guy to death and I hope he stays for life but, Kenny is irreplaceable.

Which would be sort of ironic, considering he passed over both of them while GM of Canada's Olympic team.

But Tampa? Ewww. I've been all over most of Florida, and the Gulf side is 'ok', bunch of blue hairs, but the state only cares about football (except maybe in Jacksonville).

For you NO. For me NO but that doesn't mean that in some eyes may be the people who never had the chance to see him play but only know him by highlights and stories told by thier dads. They look at him as the way he was as a coach.

Do you think as a player Gretzky would of been treated the way he was right before he left the Yotes. I recall reading and hearing about how disrepectfull the situation was handled with him.

I'd "hate" to see him go, but yeah, sometimes you just gotta move on. If Yzerman does go to another team, I hope it's one I don't hate so I can root for them. I think I could root for Tampa.

Tampa/the I-75 corridor is where Midwesterners move or retire to so it oddly makes sense.

I wouldn't mind him going to Tampa if Mr. Davidson (RIP) still owned the team...keep the Detroit connection alive.

I guess I don't blame him for looking...he wants another challenge. I don't question anyone's loyalty that wants to get a chance to shine on their own in another city...especially not 'The Captain'. Holland isn't going anywhere anytime soon and he's been super successful. Unless he planned on taking a parallel role with the team and allowed Yzerman to be more active in personnel...Yzerman is going to be a second banana for the near future. If Holland wants to still have full control...I can't see a natural leader like Yzerman just sitting on the sidelines. He wants his own team and I think he'll do well wherever he goes.

Was thinking the same thing...

I hope he doesnt leave and as mentioned I believe his kids are still about 6-7 years away from college bound so he would most definitely have to uproot their lives.

a wife + 3 daughters + beach = bye yzerman lol

I have no problem with Yzerman looking to further his career with another organization. My only question is whether he thinks he can depend on the Tampa ownership to back him - to provide stability and a decent payroll (not necessarily to the cap ceiling but not forcing him to hover at the floor, either). I know nothing about the Tampa ownership but that would be my only concern for The Captain.
