I was looking at the game highlights and I was actually thinking of girardi fighting Hartnell.

However, Shelley has been playing great for the team and I would defintely keep him.

The Rangers need a true heavyweight and Shelley fills the bill right now. They never should have let Orr go. Brashear is lower than dirt and never should have been signed. Another blot on Sather's escutcheon.

From a non-Rangers fan view i'd keep him, I know Sharks miss him sometimes.

Sharks fan here. Watching the Rangers/Flyers series. Shelley/Prust line is doing some real damage.

They found a niche countering physical teams like the Flyers. Ever since Burke left the Ducks, the Pacific hasn't been as thuggish, thus not needing Shelley.

Who would've thought they'd have a bigger impact than Jokinen.

Don't re-sign Shelley - many of us want him back!

Shelley is great, but he's getting up there in age. In just the last two games he showed 500 times more heart than Brashear did when he was here though

Prust is a definite re-sign.

I wasn't too sure about bringing Shelley back but after watching the way he played for us I think it would be smart to resign him. Just a 1 year deal for around 700k will get a done. He is everything Torts wanted Brashear to be. An enforcer who can play a regular shift. Prust is a no brainer to bring back.

Sather just needs to control himself and not give them silly contracts like he did with Brashear and Voros.

I'd be surprised if these guys aren't re-signed. Torts gave them a lot of credit in turning this team around and considered them as part of the core.

From Gross' Blog:

Quote:
But he quickly pointed to the February acquisitions of Jody Shelley and Brandon Prust in improving the team’s dressing room and, thus, it’s consistency.

“The locker room was much stronger at the end of the year than at the beginning of the year,” Tortorella said.
Quote:
“I don’t think we need to because of our core - Anisimov, Del Zotto, Prust, Shelley, I think he’s a bit older but you can see the way he added to us. We have some really good people here. We have some important decisions to make on some important positions beyond our core.”
Quote:
When you talk about character, when we traded for Jody Shelley, we got a good character guy. From San Jose, I know a couple of guys and they were sick to see him go. He’s a good character guy. There’s not enough of them.”

Shelley seems like a great guy to have in the locker room, kind of like a Paul Mara. I've read on just about every blog/insiders column that he has really had a profound effect on the Rangers locker room since his arrival. That's somebody you want to keep, especially if he's the guy standing up for players on the ice as an enforcer.

I did not undertsand why the Sharks wanted to trade Shelly, considering there own Locker room issues regarding leadership, I guess Blake got those issues behind them. There loss is our gain.

Article on Prust:

http://rangers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=527346

Quote:
“I’m going to be honest with you, I knew nothing about Prust when we got him except that he was a tough kid who was willing to fight,” said Tortorella. “But that was a great deal for us because when he got here he began to change our locker room with his personality, and he played great for us down the stretch.”

More from the same article...

Quote:
Happy and proud to be a Ranger, Brandon Prust already has his sights set on 2010-11.

“It didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable here and to make New York my home,” said Prust. “Playing at Madison Square Garden for the Rangers, an Original Six team with a lot of history, it was fun.

Coming here rejuvenated my passion for the game. It’s one of the best things that ever happened to me.”

"happy and proud to be a ranger" in an article from the rangers official site basically indicates he has a deal waiting for him

I do worry that the late performance of the Prust-Anisimov-Shelley line (incredible as it was) could be a fluke.

So, yeah I'd sign them both, but only for short-term bargain deals.
