Even if Chris could get back to the numbers he put up in Buffalo he's still not worth a $7 mil cap hit--maybe $5 mil at best. It would be silly for the Caps to bring him in considering the number of young and excellent players they're going to have a hard time holding on to because of lack of cap space. Just don't see any chance of this happening. It brings to mind the Jagr deal though where the Caps took half of his cap hit trading him to us. That's not allowed anymore.

The Caps have no need for Chris Drury. They won alot of games this season, but they're young. The lesson they learned by getting upset this playoff is going to go a long, long way into making them champions. They don't need a vastly overpaid role player to tell them what they need to know. The Oilers dynasty used to talk about how they lost to the Isles the year before they won their cups and how much it hurt and how that taught them just how high the level of sacrifice was to be champions. This shame, embarrasment, and hurt was just what that group needed to gain a dose of humility and know that while they are elitely talented, they cannot just turn it on and expect to win. This loss will make the Caps a much better team in the long run.

I'd do Semin for Anisomov and Sangunetti
though
This must be sarcasm.

we couldnt afford a Semin for Anisimov/Sanguinetti swap, a nd even if we could, would you really want to? Anisimov has showed a lot of promise to be dealt for an expiring UFA.

2nd year in a row the Caps got taken to the brink in round one. Their season amounts to little more than the teams who miss the playoffs entirely. FAAAR from the Oilers on edge of a dynasty. Or so it appears to me....

Drury may not be their answer, but its players like him they need. Knuble was a step in the right direction imo

Drury for Poti might be something to think about.

I know Poti was terrible in his stint with the Rangers, however his last season here under Renney he became a solid dman and carried that over to his time with the Islanders under Ted Nolan and he's played well for the caps.

7.0 cap hit for a 3.5 cap hit.

seriously, this thread is pretty ridiculous. Even if it's for hypothetical offseason boredom relief.

I think caps can find other useful players via free agency

rather than take a contract from NY

FYI guys... semin's signed for 6 million next year.. so yes he did get a pay raise (since he got 4.6 mil this year).

Unless of course capgeek.com's incorrect on that contract

Why would someone want a 7 mill dollar 4th line center? Are the Capitals competing in the Little League World Series this year?

caps are definitely a candidate to make a panic move but you can add intangibles for a whole lot less than 7 mil a year.

having said that, i would at least kick the tires on a drury/girardi for semin/(insert not so awesome 3million-ish a year contract here)

next season's salary would be a wash and while the caps do need to lock up backstrom this summer, i don't think that one extra year of drury for 7 mil would kill them.

pipe dream for sure, but sather should at least perform his due dilligence.

And hypothetically? any GM who trades for that contract should be removed by their ownership immediately.

Too much intangibles for the Capitals to handle, they'd never do it

What about Buffalo? Weren't they willing to sign Drury for in the ballpark we were signing him for? Maybe they'd rethink it now but I'm sure there is something sentimental for them to reacquire Drury. I'm just not sure how we could make it worth their while.

Drury + Girardi + 1st/2nd
for
one of Vanek/Roy/Connelly +draft pick depending on which player we get.

Drury traded is a pipe dream.

NMC Means; No Movement Clause

there's a nice chunk of you on these boards who love to point that out every time the idea of possibly moving drury is broached....i find it adorable.

i'm gonna estimate that between 90 and 95% of the posters on the ranger board realize that drury does indeed have a no movement clause.

it is not out of the realm of possibility that if a trade was struck, he would waive it.

it has happened before. it will happen again.

is it likely that we get out from under that deal? no. can we? its possible...he does only have 2 years left and a younger tam looking to add some character might consider it this summer.....much stronger chance to move him next summer in my humble opinion.

Semin:

Anisimov/Sangs/Redden

Thats fair. Two good prospects. and the money is a wash some of it atleast.

Or Semin for

A.A./Grachev/Redden (sweetens the pot somore more

OOOOR...

Semin and Greene for:

A.A./Grachev/McDounagh/Redden

I believe thats a big overpayment from the rangers but we do dump redden and we do get back Semin
