5/3 Discussion - Best Trade In Wild History

There have been a number of trades which made a tremendous impact on the Minnesota Wild - which one made the most and why?

I have to go with you on Latendresse for Pouliot...

Alot of people think that the Dimitra trade was a good one but although we looked good on paper, I think that trade was the downfall of this team... Once we starting pandering to Gabby we started making bad decisions and look where that got us... granted we made bad decisions before, mainly in drafting but we tried too hard to please Gabby & I think that changed us...

Don't get me wrong, at the time I was excited & of coarse hind site is 20/20 but I think that overall, we would be a stronger team had that trade not happened... I'd think at the worst we would of had a "trade me now" situation with Gabby but seeing where we eneded up with him, that would have been a blessing in disguise...

As for the others listed, I don't think any of them had enough impact to be considered the best trade. With the Lats trade it feels like we traded a nickel for a $5 bill. So it gets my vote.

By the way, why does it say I can't vote on this poll!?

I believe you have to be a member for ninety days or something to that effect.

Pouliot for Latendresse looks good now. Time will tell if the Wild made out as well as it seems.

For sheer return, I picked Rolie for a 1st rounder. Would have been interesting if DR had stuck to the plan and used that pick instead of trading it away.

technically the Roloson for #17 and the Demitra trade are essentially the same deal...we dealt 17 and O'Surly for Demitra.

Ugh.

Thanks Riser.

If the 2004-2006 drafts weren't bad enough, just think about how bad a James Sheppard/Trevor Lewis combo could have pissed off fans.

They are related but I feel the two deals are separate enough to be considered on their own.

We can't really say Pouliot for Latendresse yet only because 1 good season of Latendresse probably wouldn't make this the best deal ever right? We really haven't had many big trades yet, I think we'll be seeing a great one after this year's draft (or so I hope)

Demitra trade, hands down. That trade moved the Wild from the shadows to the limelight. In the end it only lasted two years, but those were two fun ones. Without the Demitra trade, we may be sitting at a 6 year playoff drought.

Except I was happy after they traded Rolie for a first, and sad after they traded for Demitra.

Anyone who doesn't vote Benny for Latendresse needs counseling

Then sign me up.

How can a trade that's 60 games old, not guaranteed of long-term benefit, and didn't get us into the playoffs beat out a trade that turned the Wild from losers to winners overnight. The entire team philosophy changed, and even free agents wanted to come here. The Demitra trade even has the Latendresse value. We traded two assets that ended up to be little. No comparison.

Some might argue that the Demitra trade came too early in the Wild's history. A few more lean years and some richer drafts may have led to more sustainable success.

If that's the case, then I'm screwed for picking Mitchell for O'Donnell.

Agree. The downfall of the Demitra trade was DR's unwillingness to find JL a competent linemate for him and Gaborik. Todd Fedoruk is not a top-6 forward, he is a fringe-NHLer.

Or Riser would have been out of a job, we wouldn't be saddled with this many contracts, Gaborik might have been re-signed or at least traded for assets and we wouldn't be having these middling years were we aren't good enough to make the playoffs and not down and out horrible to get a high draft pick (and no 9 is not a high draft pick. think top 3).

Or Riser would have been given an extension, Gaborik would not have ever been injured, all free agents would want to sign here and there would be a couple Stanley Cups in Xcel Energy Center.

See it's fun to play the "what if" game.

Has to be Lats-Pouliot. We got what looks to be a young 30+ goal scoring power forward for an underachieving skill guy. Runner up is Demitra for O'Sullivan and 1st, but Demo didn't seem to like it here and left for nothing.
