That's too bad. While I think most on here agree with the idea of bringing in a few vets to help the rookies along and help create a better locker room environment, chances are that means bringing in 3rd or 4th line players. It would have been nice to bring in someone who can fill in that mentor role who happens to be a skill/impact player. Jagr could have been that guy.

How it sounded was that he wasnt getting to many offers from the NHL. or he is just in it for the money.

Jagr is a mercenary player - I don't even use that as a shot anymore because I think a lot of hockey players are mercenaries. Once I saw the part of the story about Jagr getting 7-8M from Omsk I already knew what happened because I doubt any NHL team would pay him that much.

the idea of Jagr coming here was kind of neat, but an old jagr who would eat up cap space didn't really appeal to me.
So this doesn't bother me. If we really need an old guy to mentor young kids, I'm sure there are good cheap options. Plus I honestly don't believe he'd be much of a teacher for the young guys. (unless jagr said "do as I say, not as I do")

But no, TSN never said it had gone through.

This. We need to do a full rebuild and concentrate on our long term goals. We have to build prospects in every leauge and at every position before Edmonton is capable of being a dominate team. Tambo was right when he said "we have the opportunity to do something special here".

Yea, TSN and CHED were the only ones that denied it even though everyone else said the deal was done

Seemed like Jagr was all for coming to the NHL before the Olympics. OV probably reminded him about hitting and he changed his mind.

I could go either way on this. I don't think Jagr would have really brought that much so I am ok. more money to sign Brule, Gags, Cogs to long term deals with a higher contract hit now.

Depending on what happens to Souray I got to think Hamhuis would be high on the oilers list of guys to go after. If Souray goes and no D man comes back.

Whitney-Gilbert
Smid-Chorney
Petry-??

starts to look pretty thin. However I have a feeling Souray will be swapped for another D man with a bad contract.

I'd love to see him in a Pens jersey again.

Just because I wanted so badly for Sather to somehow miraculously get Weight and Messier back in Edmonton for one last hurrah.

I'd love to see him sign a sweetheart deal with the Pens, and let him retire in the city he never should have left.

Ya, I agree acutally. also Crosby-Malkin-Jagr on the PP would be pretty sick.

IMO thats good for the Oil. I think they'd have to overpay for him and at his age the chances of him playing a full season are low.
