...And i believed them last year too, its not like they didnít show this season what they can do. Or did you think they did quite poorly during first 82 games? Obviously they fell short, really, really short in the post season, but sometimes it takes more then one or two or three times or may be even longer then that to learn a certain irreplaceable lesson/s.
You learn from your mistakes and make adjustments, i.e coaches and/or players.
You don't keep beating your head against the wall. If nothing changes, don't expect any serious improvement in April-June.
I bet Nylander was laughing his ass off at our mega playoff choke. The search for a 2C continues to this day, and was happening as the playoffs started. Our attack attack attack shoot shoot shoot approach failed miserably, yet needing that style from our 2C was why we **** canned him. Ironic, huh.
I tend to agree with you there. Yeah he would go circular too much on occasion, but I thought he brought more to the table than Bruce apparently did. He could carry the puck out of our zone well, and those circles in the offensive zone could help maintain puck possession until a better shot was available. A lot of "circle" plays lead to goals in the playoffs. I find it hard to believe that a guy who had 81 points in 79 games 2 years prior could suddenly stink and become the butt of jokes. A good coach finds a role for the guy, especially at that salary.
Nylander did look real bad at times. His last game when his stick broke in the playoffs two years ago was comical. And maybe his departure was for the best, who knows.
But I had envisioned that he would become a PP specialist to make the best of his unpleasant ~5M cap hit. Thats his forte. After his departure, it seemed we went to a PP1 unit.... and PP2 was gone. Sure we would slip out a different player or two late in the PP if they scored earlier in the game, but Bruce's approach was PP1 or bust. And bust it did.
For all the bashing of Green Flash and Semin, the PP bashing may be more warranted. And thats all on Bruce.
Pining for Nylander. We've officially hit rock bottom.
Nope, RB was about a week ago. We can still laugh and bash him, and ignore his fine career until the end of time, but it doesnt change the fact that we monumentally choked, and he and his cap hit didnt have a damn thing to do with it. And that he got the last laugh. It hurts, I know.
Bruce seemed more obsessed about running him out of town than finding a second PP unit.
