When you considered they pretty much only talk about the Bills and Sabres and rarely anything else (sports-wise). You would think they would want to be as knowlegdeable as possible about the two teams and the leagues they are in.
Or pick up some information via osmosis and being around it all the time. So, unbelievably unprofessional.[1]
Ta,
[1] - and having been a semi-pro at this stuff their condescension towards us is all the more infuriating.
Schopp knows so little about the sport and by his own admission refuses to learn more. He has hung up on and attacked callers that try to talk various trade possibilities or players the Sabres should target. He has the same reaction to prospect talk. Feeling no one could possible know enough about these topics to talk about them intelligently. Translation: He doesn't know anything or very little about players around the league so trade talk is out of his grasp. This is fairly obvious when Bulldog brings up players he likes around the league and Schopp doesn't know much about them and asks Bulldog about them. Schopp also knows next to nothing about our prospects let alone any others in the NHL. So he won't talk about them either.
Odd position to take for a radio sports talk show host.

As someone he's hung up on, I can't stand the guy. Someone I used to split tickets with knows him and tried introducing us during a break in one of their pregame shows at the arena. I didn't say anything... basically didn't acknowledge the guy existed. His primary method of operation with hockey -- act like no one else cares, and if that doesn't work, take the opposite view of a caller. Someone mentions getting a name player, shoot it down. Someone mentions an unknown, shoot it down.
But heaven help us that they can waste hours (or at least it seems like hours since I don't listen to much of their show, just stopping in to see if I can catch the Sabre interviews and reports) on things that have nothing to do with sports.
I prefer the Fan 590 out of Toronto. They aren't pro-Sabre, but they have people on the air who know hockey and they bring in hockey people to talk about what is happening in the game.

Mind sharing what the topic was about, what you said, and at what point he hung up on you? I find this stuff fascinating for some reason, and as someone who gets annoyed at Schopp hanging up on people, it makes it even more interesting to me.
It seems like he resents being stuck here talking to low-class Buffalo folks when he really wants a national gig on ESPN or something.

I've mentioned this before so anyone who has read this before...
I called up in a segment where they had mentioned wanting to talk puck to bring up guys in the system. I mentioned how they had an player in the WHL who had come out of obscurity to have a terrific playoff and was now one of the better players on his team (this would be Gaustad in '01-02... so this was not GR, but 107.7). He didn't let me finish my point, put me on mute before I could finish and then said how he didn't know anything about these guys, then something like "Do Sabre fans really know anything about these guys?" and ended the call without letting me finish.

my hang up was a little more on the humorous side. back in 07 when they were on their way to the presidents trophy, i was taking classes at MCC and on my breaks i used to drive to get food at places on jefferson road in rochester, and i would obviously listen to them cuz there was nothing else on at like 3 pm. almost every day i'd tune in hoping to at least get a recap of the games the sabres had been dominating in and every time itd be the same thing - bills quarterback controversy. every day it was the same topic, over, and over and over again. (this was after the bills season had ended btw). absolutely nothing was going on in the world of bills football, meanwhile the sabres are the hottest team in hockey.. that happens.. how often?
to get to the point, i got sick of it.. really sick of it. so i called in, faked the topic - said i wanted to discuss how good i thought jp losman was, and as soon as i got on i said something like "isn't it wonderful that we have the best team in hockey, who are about to win the presidents trophy and yet all you guys can think to talk about is a stagnant football team who hasnt played in 3 months?"
LOL - i got it all out, but they cut it off on the radio before my whole sentence aired. so you basically heard the first half and then they played the "i love how poeple like to tell us how to do our job" card hahahahhahahaha. i felt better. but they never changed their ways. continued to talk about the bills every day until the playoffs started then went into superficial hockey mode. its not like they talk about hockey with any substance in the summer, they talk about like bowling and card collecting and pointless crap like that, on top of their 99% bills slobber.
they suck. but regardless, the article wasnt that far off in my opinion. the sabres show significantly less effort than anyone would expect to see a champion show.

Hey they have to keep on par with Sabres Management's knowledge/effort somehow. They really are one of the most ignorant radio hosts out there. I mean Mike and Bulldog. I mean come on "The Panther" makes better points than them. Notice how they got rid of "it". Can't have anyone showing them up.
If you want guys to talk hockey then bring in guys that know more about the active roster. Same with football. They would rather have their guests try and bring the "unknown" information on the show. Too bad these guys are the same ones.
You guys are raging at the name...he's pretty spot on in regards to the complacency this organization has in regards to certain things. (moving prospects, changing coaches, sticking with cartain players too long)
If Joe Blogger wrote this, it would be carrying more weight, because he's ostensibly echoing the sentiments of a lot of people here in regards to what our front office fails to do on a regular basis.

Yeah, I'm sure you know when you call and tell them your topic it's entered into a computer that they read off of...so if you stray from that topic they pretty much know it's troll bait.
