The fact we signed him leads me in believing we are not going after someone like a Price/Halak.
I wouldnt neccesarily buy into that line of thinking. Leighton is most likely gone. As is Emery. There is no way you can go into a NHL season with Boucher and a guy from the KHL who while may end up being very good would be facing some of the best players in the world on a nightly basis. it would be wise to either trade for or sign someone this offseason.
I dont know what this means for Backlund, but I am sure with this signing he probably sees the writing on the wall.

Realistically, they have to play this kid in the AHL to start at least, to get accustomed to NHL rinks, NA game. That means we need someone else in there ahead of Boucher, who has earned the right to return as a back up.
It could still be Leighton. Emery is done. Ellis or Turco are possibilities. Or they could acquire another young stopper as part of a trade. If we could gain some cap space and a goalie in exchange for a big contract lie Hartnell or Briere, it would be excellent.
There is also a chance Backlund will be back. I could see him and Bobrovsky in the AHL.

I see Backlund as a virtually zero percent chance of a new contract in Philly. Reports say that the Flyers have not discussed any kind of contract with him. They haven't even begun discussions or mentioned discussions per reports. So yeah, take that as you will, but he's getting a lot of noise from overseas.
Bobrovsky will go to the AHL first. They won't stick him in the NHL. I'm actually excited to see him there. Granted it's his first chance in North America, but he will be a part of a more youthful, brand new AHL team with better skating and hopefully better overall playing (though coaching could still be an issue). The talent level will also be lesser. Bobrovsky gets into a perfect situation to adjust his game to NA.

I agree. He should be in the AHL. I dont care if he comes in and blows everyone away in preseason. stick him in the AHL and let him play every night. I am thrilled we are finally taking the goaltending position seriously. Its about effing time.
I think it was just a good free asset. I don't think his signing is neccesarily indicative of some great organizational commitment to him, or means Biron or another band-aid will be signed while they groom him. They might still try to trade for a young established guy this Summer. Bobrovsky will probably be another $65k AHL player who they'll reevaluate at the end of the year.
Going to be interesting to see how this is played.
I wouldn't have a problem if management brought Biron back. It's not like the guy was trash when he was here. Let Reese work with him and see what he can do.
