And I still think it's an option worth exploring.

Agreed. Think it would really help shore up a secondary scoring role we need. Plus with having Gaborik as the go to guy, Nik could really flourish in not being the main guy here this time, as opposed to last time where he was counted on as our biggest scoring threat. Really hope this pans out and Nik comes back a little humbled.

I think it'd make the team a lot stronger, though I also think we'd still be frustrated with stuff he does at times. But as 2nd line right wing instead of 1st line right wing, it would be a much better position for him.

But where will poor MZA play

As long as the contract isn't ludicrous, I'm still listening.

3 year 10 mill. sign me up today. Playing on the second line will only help his production imo. 3.33 mill. cap hit for 60+ points thank you

Get him for 3-3.5 and I'd be thrilled.

Do you think he'd accept 3 year 10 mill?

I don't offer him what he turned down last year.

Then again, I don't want him back.

I'd be willing to go as far as 3.75 cap hit. He's legit and will help us in many different areas

Honestly, I don't know. If his desire is to return to the NHL based off of the financial turmoil of the KHL, then I'd imagine he'd go for a short term, low(er) money deal with us. Like 1 year, $3 million. Prove his worth and hope to sign for more years and more money after next season. If he actually just wants to come back to play for us, KHL uncertainty not playing any role, then maybe he'd look for a multi-year deal.

Offer him 2.5-3. If he signs, great, another second line threat. If not, who cares.

His QO was $3.25 million last summer. Remember when Brooks wrote Zherdev's agent Rolland Hedges called Slats after the Rangers walked away from the $3.9 million award to see if the $3.25 million was still available. Hedges also represents Pavel Valentenko. A package deal.

Yeah, I could definitely see him receiving and accepting a one year, $3.25MM offer from us. Just to get back into the league.

Ah, and the contentious Zherdev debate rages on for a second consecutive summer!

I wanted him back last summer and my opinion hasn't changed. He would be a great secondary scoring threat. I know many Rangers fans want Frolov but you're better off with the devil you know then the devil you don't know... Zherdev has at least shown he can put up almost 60 points in New York whereas Frolov is a bit of a wild card. We've seen players like Frolov implode in NY and I don't know if it's worth the risk to sign him.

Oh, and let me say something preemptively before the "Zherdev doesn't play well under Torts" contingency chimes in. Zherdev scored more points during the last 21 games of the season under Torts than he did during his Renney's last 21 games as coach. I think the whole Torts-Zherdev thing is overblown.

For reasonable money, yes please.

But I think he'll go elsewhere anyway... Torts and Z don't mesh.

I could see him being a lot better when we're not looking at him as our #1 scorer. In a 2nd line role with much less pressure he will do fine.

And don't you think the fact that he was heading into free agency and knew Torts would be here next year played a hand in that?

As a secondary scorer he'd be a nice addition assuming a reasonable cap hit.
