Rd. 2, Gm. 5: Flyers @ Bruins - May 10, 2010

Game 6 is 8:00 PM ET in Philadelphia (not 7:00 PM).

Latest updates to injured players:

Giroux is expected to play in Game 6.

Source: Delco Times:
Quote:
Boucher has injuries to both knees, the left is worse. Expected to miss two weeks.
CSNFlyer (tweet):
Quote:
Paul Holmgren said Brian Boucher hurt both knees and will be out for several weeks and Claude Giroux was held back. Expects to play Wed.

Quote:
BOSTON -- Brian Boucher injured both his knees in the second period when Ryan Parent fell on him during a crease scrum. His left knee is severely sprained.

“His left one is worse than the right,” said general manager Paul Holmgren. “He’ll probably be [out] a couple of weeks.”

Boucher will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Winger Claude Giroux was boarded by Steve Begin also in the second period and did not return, as a precaution, Holmgren said. Giroux was hit high around the shoulder blades, near his neck.

“We don’t think it’s anything serious,” Holmgren said.

Quote:
BOSTON – The last person to envision that Michael Leighton would have to take over for an injured Brian Boucher Monday night was Leighton himself.

“Not at all,” Leighton said, when asked whether he’d thought about the possibility of playing in Game 5 earlier in the day. “I was just happy to get on the bench and get an opportunity to cheer on the guys.”

Dressing for a game for the first time since spraining his ankle March 16 in Nashville, Leighton was just happy to cheer on his teammates from somewhere other than the press box.

And then he watched as Boucher went down.

Aside from being one of the Bruins’ best chances of the night, the play from which Boucher was injured didn’t stand out. Boucher leaned over backwards, knees bent, to grab a shot from Marc Savard that he’d appeared to lose sight of. Then after the whistle had blown, defenseman Ryan Parent was pushed into him, and the two fell backwards into the Flyers’ goalie’s net.

In hockey, that’s the kind of contact that happens all the time; players are driven into one another with frequency, and pushing and shoving after the ref’s whistle blows is commonplace.

This guy on WIP is pissing me off. He keeps talking about this being the largest shutout in Flyers' history since beating the Rangers in 1987 and then he said this could be the most "lopsided" road shutout in team history. The 1987 shutout against the Rangers was at New York.

Does anyone know how many teams managed to force a Game 6 after being down 0-3?
I remember the Sharks two years ago against Dallas, which led to the epic 4OT game.

I'm generally opposed to sports radio but I listen periodically after Flyers' games. A caller just mentioned the fact above but then followed it by saying "that series was a best three out of five." Cripes, it wasn't. It was a best of seven.

Article on NHL.com, 14 teams now. 8 of them lost game 6, 3 won game 7, 2 won game 7...

I'm.......a little nervous about how rusty Leighton might look playing a full game after so much time away. Too bad there are no other options. Boston won't look whupped like they did most of today, I picture them storming into the zone and putting him to the test. Hope he's up for it.

I'm not sure league-wide but the only other time I recall it happening in Flyers' history was against the Islanders in 1975. Flyers won the first three. Islanders won the next three.

In fairness, that is kind of how he always looked. Puck bouncing off his glove, pucks going here and there... Given the situation, the best thing about Leighton is that his game is pretty damn simple.

The Flyers cannot get caught up in the idioticy with the Bruins players. stay focused. keep playing your game. Dont let em draw you into the stupid bs.
Begin should have gotten 5 minutes for that hit on Giroux. ridiculous.
I just wish the Flyers would have run it up on em tonight. I am not usually one that approves those things when the game is already decided but you have to make them pay if they want to run around and play like idiots.
I think they are going to win game 6. So what does Boston do now? Go with Thomas? because I think we are in Rask's head IMO

Why was Pronger 1st star? I know he was good but better than Leino or Gagne?

the replay of the game is currently on NESN. 1 period in the books on the replay.
After 30 seconds I realize I am going to have to put it on mute. Just cannot stand that rotten turd Jack Edwards voice

EDIT: it looks like they are fast forwarding certian points of the game.

I wondered that myself. He was good, but I thought Leino was the best player on the ice.

I'm probably in the minority here but I think Leighton will play great. Boucher was good against Jersey but has been just average since - and I don't care about numbers. He has had good protection in front of him all playoffs. Leighton would not have given up that garbage goal in game 4 that Boucher did.

I was surprised the Bruins came out so flat. It's not like they weren't skating hard - they just came out and played overly cautious. Both teams had two days of rest so there was no excuse really. You would think they would have come out like crazy trying to win it on home ice. I'm sure they didn't want to have to fly back to Philly on Wednesday.

Did anyone else notice when Pronger was pushing a Flyer away from the Bruin that tripped him up along the boards so they would get the PP. I have noticed him doing that a lot, and I think his and Lavio are a big reason why that game didn't turn into a total s**t show.

Leino's performance tonight alone was worth a 5th round pick.

Ville, apparently, does not dick around in elimination games.

Also, Jules is genius:

I think that the stars of the game are named by the local writers if I'm not mistaken. They were probably just pissed and named whomever.

I just watched that shift by Leino when Hartnell scored.
My God, that was a thing of beauty.
